AUSA – Gerber Emergency Rescue Hook

It turns out that medics have been using the Gerber Strap Cutter for everyday use so Gerber took a look at the design to see if the could improve upon it. While it is a very functional design, it really only does one thing and that’s cut straps. So they created the new Emergency Rescue Hook. It is longer than the Strap Cutter which gives you more reach to get at more difficult straps that might be pinned. It also offers you more torque when cutting. This feature alone allows medics to cut right through rigger belts, pants and all to expose wounds for treatment. Additionally, Gerber added an oxygen bottle wrench. The molded plastic sheath is PALS compatible.

Now this is the one I wanted to look at! Very nice looking rescue cutter. I like that it’s long. Too many designs are short and small, and it can be very hard to gain leverage with those. The sheath is a nice touch too. A lot of cutters don’t have good sheaths or they are folders, which makes them slow to employ. I would love to get one of these, when will they be available?

After the first of the year, MSRP is $30

    Nice! Thanks!

Does the reverse end act as a window breaker?

  5. Administrator says:

    Yes, it does

    Nice!

I’ll be buying this when it comes out.

These things have almost completely replaced the good ol’ trauma shears these days. They’re even starting to show up in civilian EMS now. I sported mine, next to my trauma shears, when I was working EMS. The addition of the O2 wrench is brilliant! Will they come in black or maybe Safety Orange for civilian use?

Agree with both Buckaroomedic and FormerSFmedic. Been looking at the Benchmade 8MED rescue hook for my medic drop leg rig. Same MSRP for both but this Gerber one has everything the 8MED has and a glassbreaker end plus it looks way cooler. Looks like we have a winner here.
