12 Days of Tactical Christmas – Day #11

MSR is a huge supporter of the military and they really came through for us today with 11 of their Whisperlite Stoves.

Also, don’t forget, today’s winners as well as every other winner, will receive a 2012 Tac Girls Calendar. (Just the calendar, not any of the girls)

  1. Rob says:

    Coffee…hot coffee.

  2. Itek01i says:

    Chicken Noodle

  3. Nick says:

    SKOAL wintergreen long cut

  4. mike says:

my favorite was the spaghetti MREs in the old dark brown bag. Mix in the crackers and cheese and it always brought a smile to my face, no matter how much it sucked.

  5. robert says:

Chicken and dumplins MRE, but mostly for the shock-lates.

  6. Adam says:

Best thing I’ve ever made from an mre is chocolate pudding with many coffee packets added.

  7. Scott says:

Marshmallows…not the tiny little ones, the really big ones and they need to get all crusty and black over an open fire!! Mmm…the breakfast of champions!!

  8. Andrew says:

Mr Noodles with added curry powder was a staple for a long time.

IMPs I liked Chicken Tit with Gravy with Rusks crumbled in,

    MREs I liked the spagetti.

German rations I liked the pea soup or whatever the hell it was…

French rations I liked the beans and weiners.

  9. Jason says:

The Corn Beef Hash MRE in the dark brown bag. That and a can of Copenhagen snuff makes for a good field evolution.

  10. Dave says:

Captain Country’s Chicken of course. It was great for losing weight. You just starved.

  11. Bryan says:

Used to really like the beef frankfuter mre, with the jalapeno cheese.

  12. Mumf says:

Chicken Arrabbiata. Absolutely delicious, and sure to pick me up when I’m cold and wet.

  13. Matt says:

Chicken and dumplings. I like the hot coffee sentiment though.

  14. Kevin Dooley says:

You put enough hot sauce on anything and it tastes good… Dunno – I’d say the corned beef was pretty tasty.

  15. BATTMAN says:

Stew and Chilli; lets not forget coffee and hot water to wash up with after a hard day hiking..

  16. Davy says:

    Snakes.

  17. Travis says:

    The Cheese Tortellini MRE

  18. Jamie says:

cocoa beverage powder with the instant coffee somewhat not cold.

  19. Dono says:

Spagetti MRE w/ Tabasco. Actually any MRE with enough Tabasco hits the spot.

  20. Darin says:

Capt. and Coke all the way !!

  21. Jason Lee says:

The true MRE gourmet knows that the winner is the one who mixes with a friend. We’ve tried several combinations, but one of the best from the current menu is to mix the vegetarian stew with the beef brisket. Seriously f’in good! As in, I’d eat it watching TV because I’m lazy, never mind field use 🙂

On the other hand, just pump me full of instant coffee and to hell with the rations.

  22. Rick says:

The MRE southwestern beef and beans is great!

  23. Dan Wowra says:

My favorite ration is the new Chicken and Pesto Pasta MRE. Probly the best one Ive had, truly good hot or cold.

  24. Kyle says:

    chicken and dumplings MRE

  25. Sam Gilmer says:

Coffee is pretty damned good, especially the way these guys make it:

  26. HD says:

Cheese tourtiline MRE- cold/warm, it doesnt matter.

  27. Kevin18B says:

They are all nasty but the Aussie daily rations in the huge tin cans arent too bad.

  28. William says:

The Lemon Pound cake that used to be in MREs, put it on the engine to warm it up…wash it down with some coffee….

It was like being at my Mom’s house, only dirtier and with people shooting at us.

  29. Lasse says:

    Cigarettes and coffee?

If that doesn’t count, I have to say Norwegian Drytech (pasta bolognese), mixed with cream, garlic butter, horse sausage and bacon. The bacon was cooked on an MSR burner in butter, which doesn’t belong to me.
The Norwegian rations are horrible without extensive modifications.

  30. Blake Martindale says:

    chili and macaroni MRE

  31. David says:

    Almonds and dried blueberrys.

  32. James says:

It has to be the treacle sponge from the older British rations. A sugar content that would give you diabetes if you looked at it and a tough consistency that made it an excellent go to if you ran out of ammo for your primary.

  33. Ekku says:

Scho-Ka-Kola. German dark chocolate with good taste and lots of caffeine.

  34. Saul says:

    coffee

  35. Kate says:

    hot chocolate

  36. Trace says:

My favorite? Which ever mre that had the brown spice cake. Oh! And the old eggs with ham in the old dark brown bag.

  37. craig says:

For me it was always the old chicken cavatelli. I also enjoyed taking the chocolate mint brownie, and then smearing a mixture of peanut butter, cocoa powder and a sugar packet on top, total sugar rush. Some of the offerings in the new NG MREs are decent, just wished they had more calories in them, I’m a double rations type guy who is getting punished for all the fatties out there.

  38. mark l says:

    Trail mix

  39. Clint says:

    MRE – Chili Macaroni

  40. Curtis says:

Beef Jerky and Coffee cant be beat

    Also cola bottle gummies

  41. Jayson says:

    Pop-Tarts

  42. Jon says:

Jalapeño cheese spread from the new MREs

  43. CJ says:

I’m a pretty big fan of the spicy penne pasta or jambalaya MREs. And coffee, of course.

  44. Alex says:

In the older style British issue ration pack the Yorkies chocolate bars were awesome. It’s now been replaced by a packet of nuts and raisins :'(

  45. Joshua Dayment says:

    Boneless pork rib mre

  46. Clark says:

Chicken fajita MRE and hot sause

  47. Mike D says:

Ravioli MREs. To me they taste the best.

  48. Danny says:

PB&J’s all the way! With the crust! Mmmhh mmmhh B*tch!

  49. Clark says:

    sauce*

  50. Neil says:

Chili Mac MRE. I’d trade all kinds of pogey bait for a pouch of that stuff!
