Forces Focus – 27e Bataillon de Chasseurs Alpins (27e BCA)

The French 27e bataillon de chasseurs alpins (27e BCA) or 27th Mountain Infantry Battalion recently conducted high altitude mountaineering training in Chamonix. This unit has seen extensive action in Afghanistan. Take a few minutes to check out their equipment. The Overwhites are an Arktis design.

    Kudos finding that video!

It’s instructional to see the real pros at work and gratifying to see them using some of the same gear and techniques as my winter mountaineering mates and I did when we went after the 12,300-ft California Matterhorn the last week in Dec just south of the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.

I did a piece about this (and gave you guys credit and thanks up front) at my Tactical Trekker blog where I compared our gear to theirs (“Sierra Lessons From The Swiss 27th Mountain Infantry” – http://www.tacticaltrekker.com/2013/03/swiss-27th-mountain-infantry-battalion.html)

I raised a couple of gear questions in that post that your readers might be able to address and hope that there may be more video where this one came from.

    Anyway, kudos and thanks!

    Hi Lewis,

One precision: this is not the Swiss army … but French Army “Chasseurs Alpins”.

    Cheers
    Romain

Oh ouch! Thanks Romain. I paid too much attention to the gear, not enough to the rest.

Good to see Arktis gear in use. They still make some great kit.
