Former Missouri Rep Ike Skelton Dies at 81

Former Democrat Missouri Representative Isaac Newton “Ike” Skelton, IV passed away yesterday in Virginia. Skelton won the first of 17 congressional terms in 1976 and was chairman of the House Armed Services Committee when he left office in 2010. His District included Whiteman AFB and Ft Leonard Wood. He is recognized as a key supporter of the military. He was also an Eagle Scout. He will be missed.

    Skelton was a true pro 2A Dem and strong supporter of the military. The party needs more like him.

    I had the opportunity to meet him a few weeks ago at our alma mater’s homecomming. While I was a student there, he would come take the cadets on a staff ride. Very exceptional leader.

    Strong supporter of the Missouri National Guard, and he has been immortalized with the MO Guard ISTS, Ike Skelton Training Site.
