Screw Iron Man – TALOS Needs To Look Here

If USSOCOM is looking for inspiration for its Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS), it needs to stop talking Iron Man and start looking at this guy’s work.

Helmets

Artist Alex Jessup has come up with some pretty interesting concepts.

Pointman and Shrike

Take a look at more of his work here.

    Tuscan Raiders anyone?

    • Dan says:

More like tricked out airsofter. Looks like one of those metal half face masks under those high-tech goggles. Great idea starting point for facial protection though.

      • Bradkaf308 says:

Tuscan Raider. First it was Forest moon of Endor Rebel Raiders – ATAC-FG, now this.

Very impressive Alex is a very talented artist.

  3. Hello, good concepts, big fan of army software and hardware and been looking at new tactical armour for a while. I have a rather interesting idea that I am going to share with BAE Systems if I get onto the placement scheme next year.

BAE Systems have adaptive technology, camo is great for the naked eye to miss, the real danger to the modern solider is the infrared and survivability e.g. cooling down or warming up based on climate.

this tech is used for a experimental tank (see link below) and I want to get BAE Systems to use this not only on their subs, ships, tanks and planes, but also its man on the ground… the panels are big (don’t have the measurements) and I am going to suggest to BAE to get them smaller and also do additional features… feature one is straight forward adaptive armour, the second feature is that the panel is able to be used as a solar panel charging the battery’s for lights, other tech and importantly for the adaptive to work. let me know what you think and lets work on this great idea. the concept is great too keep up the good work. I look forward from hearing off you. clewlow_co_uk@hotmail.co.uk is my e-mail. kind regards

I did chuckle at the kneepad. Much better artist than I will ever be.

    • Timmay says:

Glock shovel kneepads are one thing, that Glock shovel codpiece makes tje boys feel way safer.

  5. DA says:

    Great artist, some cool ideas.

Is that Bryan Black from ITS as a model for the Shrike Operator?

  6. DanW says:

That all looks expensive as hell

  7. Philip says:

    Marines in Multicam? lolwut

Great artwork, though. Very cool pictures.

  8. Mobious says:

Cool and good looking, but the only thing really new are the face masks and optics, the PMC dude is real normal too, though with magpuls on his AK mags for some reason… well, it doesn’t hurt.
I do like the armor though, does set these outfits out from other stuff

  9. Arrow 4 says:

That rifle magazine “dispenser” on the Marine Point man is a reality…Wilcox made one up…though I don’t think it went any where, I saw a couple in an Army Surplus store in Colorado Springs…didn’t look like they had even been used.

There has been a lot of this sort of art floating around Deviantart.com for a long time. Start prowling and you might see some cool ones.

  12. Zach says:

I’ve seen this guys stuff before over on Deviant Art and Pinterest. There are some really really interesting and very possible conceptual art that’s been floating around over on websites like Deviant Art. A lot of past and current technologies can be attributed to a persons imagination as the beginning, so its definetly within the realm of possibility for future stuff to come out of something like this. Thanks for sharing SSD!

  13. Clasky says:

That’s some very creative stuff right there. While some of it looks a bit alien, so did the panoramic NVG’s when they first came out…

  14. MKULTRAFUN says:

If you want an honest glimpse into the future, its robotic warfare, Aaron Beck is a concept artist who has worked on quite a few films and video games.

Also if you haven’t seen K3loid by BigLazyRobot I suggest you go watch it immediately just for the fact that it is 100% CG and realistic as all get out.

  15. Kevin says:

    1. Man all that stuff looks hot/heavy as hell.
    2. How am I supposed to be able to dip with my face covered?
    3. This posits that the US Military will have any money in the future.

    Sweet artwork, though.

  16. Stupid enlisted guy. says:

Where does the dip spit go?

  17. Brian says:

That rifle looks like the KRISS and the ACR had a love child.

    • MKULTRAFUN says:

According to the art on his page, its a Kriss + HK collaboration. So essentially a Kriss Vector and a HK416 had a love child…. I’d shoot it.

  18. Jon, OPT says:

This makes for excellent artwork, and there are some great ideas for future concepts, other than that it is a recipe for disaster and counter-intuitive to anyone who has deployed and worn gear.

    1. Too much shit
    2. Lacks simplicity
    3. Lacks mobility (take knee, get prone, simply pick up something that fell on ground).
    4. How will it feel soaking ass wet with water running down the wearer’s ass crack?

Great gear, and being overburdened with ammo do not win the fight; TTPs win the fight.

I invite the artist to contact me, optactical@yahoo.com (my reply my take a while) about what reality is and what he has created here. I respect the hell out of graphic artists, and am myself a former illustrator, but until we work towards something along the lines VC meets marathoner, or RLI meets Ultralight Backpacker, the worse off our force will be.

That being said, his artistry is amazing.

  19. these look more like video game concept art than anything
