Velocity Systems Boss Rugby Available In More Colors

If you’ve run into me at a trade show over the past few months, you’ve probably seen me wearing a Boss Rugby from Velocity Systems. I love this thing. Over the past 6 months, I’ve not only worn it to trade shows but also camping, hiking and to the range. It’s not only comfortable but also durable. The fabric has yet to pill or pull.

The Boss Rugby is made from a nylon/spandex blend to give it a little mechanical stretch as well as great wicking properties to increase comfort. The fabric also incorporates both soil release treatment as well as Odorexx™ Antimicrobial which is good for 25 washes.

This is a fantastic fabric but unfortunately, many see images of the material and think it’s the same stuff that those mesh penny vests you wore as a kid are made from. It’s not. Rather than actual mesh, it’s a pointelle knit which helps with breathability. As you can see, there aren’t any actual holes in the fabric.

The other misconception many have about the Boss Rugby is the two flat shoulder pockets. They feature a pile fabric that accepts Velcro hook. It isn’t some big, fuzzy, high profile patch at all. It’s a very low impact material and blends in well with the rest of the shirt.

I cannot recommend this shirt enough and I hope that these couple of photos have given you a better idea of what the Boss Rugby is all about.

The Boss Rugby is available from Velocity System via phone order or through SKD Tactical for online order in Black, Wolf Grey and Tan, sizes Small – XXLarge.

I know there has been posed the question about without pockets/velcro, but what about embroidery? I would love one without the velcro to get as a unit shirt for casual fridays… Any word is velocity is looking at doing one without velcro in the future?

Any word on a coyote brown or are these going to be it for colors?

  3. Walsh says:

Sure, we can do a run without the pockets. It’ll be a few months, but we have had enough requests that it makes sense. We are looking at adding coyote and ranger green on the next run.

I was about to say. Call them.

They’ve bent over backwards to accommodate me, surely unit shirts wouldn’t be a big deal.

Thumbs up to VS and Mayflower

The pocketless sleeves would be great. I’ve already got three of the current style in black. Love them, but would prefer them without the patches and pockets for more casual everyday wear. Black, Navy, Charcoal/gun metal grey, coyote and ranger green.

I version without velcro and in Navy would be outstanding.

Would love to see some with contrasting colors for the collar. Like grey collars on or tan shirts.

How is the “fit”? Is it loose cut, athletic, form fitting? Any dimensions for the chest? Looks like a great product. Thanks.

    • Mike Nomad says:

The best I can do to describe the fit is Loose Form Fitting. Being 6’0″ 215 Lbs. I go back and forth between Large and Extra Large (depending on manufacturer). I went XL, and the fit is perfect. There is a little maneuvering room, the give of the fabric is excellent, no binding. Works great as a base layer or stand-alone. The pockets are not bulky, and load pretty well.

      • AKo says:

I’m 5’7″, 163lbs, medium build. I wear a Medium but could get away with a small. Medium is form fitting enough to wear with concealed carry but not look like you’re wearing something oversized. Like Mike said, “loose form fitting”. Buy your normal t-shirt/polo size and you should be GTG.

    My shirt shipped yesterday!

Thanks guys for the follow up. I don’t know if the whole unit would buy them (given my guys make tshirts for everything), I’m wanting to get one for myself and my 1SG so we piss off the other companies when we go to dinner with the boss 😉

    gotta look sharp.
