SIG SAUER - Never Settle

Sig Sauer P320

Last night, Sig Sauer put up a video of the new P320 modular striker fired pistol. They immediately took the video down, however a reader of ours managed to take screenshots first. Information on the P320 is limited, given Sig’s intent to officially launch it at SHOT Show 2014. However, a few details have been leaked:

  • Ambidextrous slide catch lever
  • Reversible magazine release
  • Small, Medium, and Large-size frames
  • Will be compatible with both a standard trigger and tabbed safety trigger, similar to a Glock trigger
  • Reportedly, variants in 9mm, .357 SIG, .40, and .45 ACP w/double-stack magazine capacities
  • Reportedly, SIGLITE night sights are standard with the pistol
  • This is the write up from the SIG website.

Introducing the P320, a polymer-framed service pistol designed from the ground up with the input of law enforcement officers. The result is the most operator-safety focused striker duty pistol on the market today.

Taking into account the concerns of military and police training officers, the P320 provides an enhanced level of safety not found on most modern service pistols. Unlike its competitors, the P320 does not require the operator to pull the trigger nor use a special tool to take-down the firearm for cleaning or routine maintenance.

Featuring a modular grip frame and removable fire control assembly pioneered by SIG SAUER, the P320 is customizable to any hand size or duty requirement. The P320 can quickly be converted from a Full-size to a Carry pistol. Slide and barrel conversions allow the P320 to change between calibers and barrel lengths as well. The P320 will be immediately available in 9mm, .40S&W and .357SIG, with .45ACP coming later in 2014.

With a partially pretensioned striker, the P320 has a short, crisp trigger pull with a quick, pronounced reset right out-of-the-box. The P320 comes in two trigger variants: a standard trigger and a tabbed safety trigger for specific law enforcement clients. Featuring the SIG SAUER internal safety system, the P320 has no external safety or decocking lever to snag or hang up on the draw. A frame-mounted thumb safety version will be available for law enforcement needs. SIGLITE® night sights come standard, and the reversible magazine release makes the P320 completely ambidextrous.

Whatever the requirement, patrol duty, competition, time at the shooting range, or concealed carry, the P320 brings SIG SAUER legendary reliability, durability, and quality to the polymer-framed, striker-fired duty pistol.

The positioning of the slide catch lever is brilliant (as someone with relatively small hands), but the bore axis still looks higher than any of the competition.

    2. DSR says:

Disappointing. As someone with relatively big hands, the slide catch lever is, as usual, right in the way. I guess you can’t satisfy everyone. And yes, the bore axis is just as high as their hammer-fired pistols. In fact, it looks like they couldn’t break free of the P250 brain freeze. SIG can make bullet-proof guns like my 229, but they are decades behind in ergonomics. I would love to see something as solid as their classic pistols but with a modern design.

    3. Kyle says:

Was expecting it to have a lower bore axis. Interested to see how it shoots, and how the trigger feels.

    4. Alex says:

That bore-axis is a deal killer. Not interested.
I am happy to see an ambidextrous slide release, but why hasn’t someone engineered an ambidextrous magazine release yet for pistols?

Walther M1 magazine release is Ambi. It’s the European release that is part of the trigger guard and released via trigger finger vs a button on the grip for your thumb to release. As a female shooter with smaller hands i can’t release a mag with a thumb release without shifting the gun, but can drop mags easily with my trigger finger with my PPQ M1

      • Evan says:

I know the Walther P99s have had the option for an ambi slide-release as of their 2nd generation (starting in 2004), and the PPQ also has an ambi slide-release, standard.

lost me on the bored axes

    6. Anthony says:

Cost estimate: Eleventy million bajillion fafillion mamillion dollars.

    7. Mike says:

SIG is waaaaayyyy too late to the slop trough with this one. Instead of leading the industry they hit a boofo and are playing catch up in a market they have NO HOPE of significant market penetration.

    8. JD says:

Wow, a striker fired 250. LOL no thanks Sig.

    9. Lark says:

So it basically a p250 with a little fancier frame… Disappointed! Apparently sig is hell bent on failure. The sig pro has seen great sales so of course you think they would put more into it but no not sig they go and repackage there failed p250 it will probably have the same reliability issues as the p250 too.

    10. agarie says:

If they listen the customers, and make a DA/SA with fully ambidextrous controls, I totally buy, but another striker fired pistol? No, thanks…

    11. vinsin says:

Ive had p250 (2009) not a single issue with it at all ever got thousands of rounds through it and it still a tac driver at 50 yards.

    12. tim says:

Yeah Im with vinsin, I have been shooting my p250 with about a thousand rounds through it without any problems. People give the p250 a bad rap because they don’t like the double action only trigger. Nobody is forcing you to be a bad shot the trigger just highlights your flaws.

    13. Seth says:

The P320 will still be another solid Sig pistol. If you are a Sig fan, have the money and like the feel of the 320 in your man hands then this pistol will be another solid hit for them.
