Warrior East – Wild Things Tactical – USAF PPE Top

Here is a final, production sample of the new PPE Top purchased as a non-FR version of the combat shirt for USAF Security Forces.

It is intended to be worn under the IOTV at home station and was procured under DFLCS. As you can see, the sleeve pockets are included in the production model.

It would be interesting to see if some of the units start letting SFS wear these at home station.

    • Cap'n Drew says:

      I think that’s the idea. It’s a non-FR (i.e., garrison-only) version of a combat shirt.

      • Sgt B says:

It’s the idea, but most of the Defenders I know don’t rock the full gear, so it would be pointless to wear.

  2. DSM says:

There’d have to be an addendum to 2903 first. But since most squadron leadership is utterly useless there would be so many arbitrary rules tacked on to its wear it most likely wouldn’t be worth it.

  3. CJ says:

If it’s DFLCS, then it may be considered “equipment” rather than a uniform, like the ABSGs.

  4. Riceball says:

I guess this means that the Air Force has no plans on ditching the digital tiger patter and adopt Scorpion/OCP for garrison wear?

    • Hoff says:

ABU is and always has been a garrison uniform. Pretty sure these are going to appear at the nuke bases first as they stay in IOTVs all the time.

    • SSD says:

      Not anytime soon.

    • DSM says:

I’d wager on “eventually” but given the current budgetary climate I think everyone is looking to see if anything happens to big Army for their camo debacle. Will they get schwacked for farting around all these years? Because if the Army gets called to account then they very similar ABU will have some ‘splaining to do.

It’ll be the same “soft launch” and the party line will be how “our airmen love the ABU but we have to follow the direction of Congress”. Depending how Scorpion goes I’d think you’ll see big AF start leaning that way in 2-3 years.

      • SSD says:

        That’s a fair assessment

        • DSM says:

My guess is that they’ll phase it in just like OCP as a deployment only uniform. The moment you see it on an A-Bag packing list for a deployment other than OEF we’ll know the hive mind of zipper suited sun gods has started to shift.

  5. Pablo says:

This is a step in the right direction, but unfortunately these are going to get so many ridiculous regulation that its gonna be impossible to wear these. I was never a fan of that design since I don’t like it being so close to the skin and not being able to zip down the neck. I can’t wait till we ditch that horrible ABU.

  6. LC says:

another dumb example of airforce waste of money.

    • DSM says:

Maybe, but at least it’s an attempt to help the trooper sweating their butt off in body armor. Why it’s taken so long to make an attempt to allow it for garrison use, non-FR or not, is my question. These shirts have been around for how long now?

      • Pablo says:

08-09 Time frame man. People going to the Stan and Iraq where issued these as part of the ABSG hit. It was always frowned upon to even mention wearing these for any reason.
