FirstSpear Friday Focus – Squadron Smock

SquadronSmock_CoyoteBrown_F_9862

For this week’s Friday Focus, we’re taking a look at a classic FirstSpear garment, the Squadron Smock.  It was one of their first clothing items and this classic design remains one of my favorite jackets, years later.  The shell fabric on the Squadron Smock is 330D by 3-ply 70D Taslanized nylon with DWR finish. Additionally, it integrates a gridded fleece yoke lining, 330D Cordura elbow reinforcements, as well as mesh interior pockets along the skirt.

The Squadron Smock features a total of 18 pockets, giving wearers a large amount of carriage capacity. The hood is sized to accommodate helmets, with drawstring and rear adjustments, and a wire stiffened brim. Two-way pit zips provide ventilation, and drawstrings along the waist and hem allow for adjustment to suit the wearer. The Squadron Smock also features scrim/camo attachment points along hood, upper back, and waist; 2-way main zipper with snap closure at bottom; and Velcro adjustable cuffs.

I love smocks they are a great way of carrying a lot of gear while not looking like you’re carrying a lot of gear.
I had a really old DPM one i used to use when i went shooting with my old man i could carry literally hundreds of Cartridges, gloves, snacks, tools, and even a 2ltr water bottle in the breast pockets. Will definitely be looking at getting one of these soon.

Agreed, these are excellent. Love the inclusion of loops into the back for some incorporation of foliage. Great storage on this guy as well.

Now, if we could get this in OD.

  4. I want one of these for no rational reason. It just looks so cool. Does anyone have first hand experience with how rugged they are, and the level of warmth / water repellent they provide?

  5. I’d like to hear from folks who own one too. It seems the sleeves are really short on these, as I look at the measurement chart for them. I have a 33/34 sleeve length in a shirt.
