    Is that a Blue Falcon?

  2. Richard says:

I was thinking the same thing.

Although that did used to be a real thing. I was both a Gold Falcon and Blue Falcon during my time in the Eighty Deuce. 2nd Brigade (325 AIR) of the 82nd is the Falcons. All brigades in division used to use 1st Batt Red, 2nd Batt White, and 3rd Batt Blue. From the mid 80s through the mid 90s, 3/325 was part of the 173rd in Vicenza. So 2nd Brigade, 82nd was 1, 2 and 4/325. 4/325 was the Gold Falcons. Well, 96-97ish, 173rd reorganized and so the 82nd redesignated 4/325 as 3/325. So until the RCT reorganization that was done that redesignated each of the 3rd Batts in the 82nd as Cav Battalions, there were no shit Blue Falcons that served either in Italy or Bragg. And we were actually one of the better battalions during that timeframe.

Just imagine, a whole battalion of Blue Falcons 😉

Anyway, cool patch, I might have to get one. Looks similar to the MOTUS patch that was out a couple years back.

No battalion of the 325th Infantry has ever been part of the 173rd.
The 173rd re-activated in Italy in 2000, with a single battalion, 1/508 ABCT. I remember it quite well, standing there sweating my balls off on Hoekstra Field.
3/325 ABCT was re-flagged as 1/508 ABCT while deployed to Bosnia in 1996

That’s pretty frikkin cool. 2 of my favorite things too.

I hope they do a subdued version too though – I’m not really a fan of full color morale patches.

I was in 4th then 3rd. We (4th)didn’t go to Bosnia. Were supposed to. Trained up and got equipped for it and then they reassigned the mission to an armor unit out of Germany. I was never in Italy, but 3rd was in Italy and did go to Bosnia. Shortly after we were told 3rd was redesignating to 508 so we were changing from 4th to 3rd. I know at one point 3rd and 4th swapped as part of a COHORT or something and that’s how 3rd was in Italy and 4th was at Bragg. Possibly late 70s, early 80s. I was in 4th and 3rd from 95-2000. You know the Italy part but I know the Bragg part.

And I was in the formation at Bragg sweating my ass off when we switched from 4th to 3rd.

Had LTC Waggoner as BN CDR for most of the time I was there and I think he was the BC when we switched. 15 to 20 years ago,
my dates may be a little off.
