Just ordered the Alp Mtn Gtx boots. Something better in store?

I’m done with Salomon. I’ve been wearing the XA pro series for years at work and play (regular and forces series). They were awesome until recent design changes made them both uncomfortable and not as durable. I’m done with them…gonna try Lowa next time I need shoes. I hate shoe companies,
they make something badass and then think they need to change it to make it better. They always shoot themselves in the foot.

Good one….I see what you did there!

I will agree with your sentiments. I switched from Merrells to Salomons because their XA Pro 3D Ultra were a comfortable shoe when I tried them on. Sadly, they didn’t even last a year before the sole started to go out after light use. I had Merrells that lasted several years with some moderate use here and there, and I was extremely disappointed with the XA Pro’s durability. Unless I hear of improvements to their durability, I won’t be switching back.

Every formerly-trusted brand of boots I’ve worn the past few years has required prodigious applications of Shoe-Goo to stay in service. Even the laces are garbage. It’s a death-spiral to the bottom.

        This is true.

Some of my first boots were Redwings. Then I switched to Magnums, good boot but last few years not so much. 5.11 made a really nice desert boot but new stuff not so much.

My recent AKU’s have been great, but I also have been pleased with my Danner’s and Soloman GTX. A pair of Reeboks went to trash as did a pair of Merrels. I think shoes are in many ways like car makes. You’re gonna get a “lemon” every now and then.
