Post SHOT Show Wrapup – Galactac AR500 Ballistic Armor Suit

IMG_0418

Artist Ryan B. Flowers has been selling his Mandalorian-inspired Galactac armor sets for a while now, but this is the first time one’s been made of actual ballistic armor, and it has some high-profile industry names behind its creation. Ballistic armor manufacturer AR500, Heckler & Koch, SureFire, SOG Knives, Team Wendy, Armasight, and TEA Headsets all threw their support, and products, into the development of what is essentially a set of contemporary ballistic Mandalorian armor. This set was floating around the SHOT Show floor, spending its time between the H&K and AR500 booths, the later where we found it and took a few photos for your perusal.

Stay tuned for the further info on the development of this suit at a later date.

You can get a set of the non ballistic armor at www.galac-tac.com/home.

Is the RAC headset now compatible with Team Wendy’s helmets or is this modded some way ?

    • VS1 says:

Have seen RAC headsets mounted pretty easily with a screw and T-nut into the rear slot on the rail. The RAC already has a hole in that spot.

Truly beautiful AND THE real stormtrooper armor out there.
Now, is it really wearable in the real world by a solider and does it work for its intended purpose? That, and so much more, unknown.

    • joglee says:

Yes, but I wouldn’t want to.

It’s bulky, heavy, and AR500 steel is only Level III rated and inferior to modern Level IV ceramics in use.’

It does look cool so it has that going for it.

    • Matthew says:

Stormtrooper? Obviously you mean Mandalorian armour worn by Jango and Boba Fett.

(statement punctuated with superiority complex driven geek snort)

  3. Bill says:

No jet pack = nerd fail

  4. Aidan says:

I would question the overall ability of the guy wearing that to be able to see much. I mean I like the overall armor, but he has no peripheral vision to speak of. Of course this isn’t a serious concept so on that score it does look cool and that is what counts.

    • joglee says:

It’s one of the reasons why I always shake my head at scifi armor’s that always have these fancy helmets that would reduce visibility to 25% of what we would have without those eye cuts.

    • Dan says:

But is the visor ballistic rater? Or APEL approved lol

  5. Jon, OPT says:

Aesthetically awesome. Otherwise useless. Ryan does incredible artwork, and this is cool as shit, just don’t gunfight in it.

I’m pretty sure it’s not meant to be taken seriously.

  6. Greg says:

Everyone will want one, to have an up-armored mannequin in their home! Got to say though, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see this inspire further development in hard body armor.

  7. Chris says:

The HK guy who got stuck wearing it everyday said he loved wearing it because he didn’t have to talk any of the lookie loos at the HK booth, and he felt like a movie star with all the photos that were being taken.

  8. Dan187 says:

I know it’s not serious, but that said.

Not sure I would want to wear armor that has seams right in the middle of the chest. I would prefer full coverage there, as my blood pumper is right behind it.
