I picked up one for myself as well as for each of my sons, who are in Scouts. Granted, it’s an emergency compass, but I used a button compass when I participated in Ridge Runner about 20 years ago, so it’s better than nothing.

Slide a $2.99 BSA Hot Spark ferrocerium rod and a micro LED light on that lanyard and you have a decent collection of handy “last ditch” survival tools. Add a Spyderco Ladybug-sized blade for trained youth and adults to improve things even more.

That’s a great idea. Only thing I’d add is that if you replace the necklace with Jute twine, you have an excellent source of tinder for using with the BSA Hot Spark.
