FirstSpear Range Day – Gentex/Ops-Core

To the left is the Gentex TBH-II MC (Mission Configured) and to the right is the Ops-Core FAST MT (Maritime).  I wanted to give you a little information to help guide those making helmet purchases.

From any angle, they look the same.  Both have the same shape, same suspension system, and same accessories. However, the TBH-II is an aramid ballistic solution and the FAST relies on a Polyethylene solution.  The TBH-II offers 9mm protection at 1400 fps and the FAST offers 9mm protection at 1200 fps, so fairly similar balllistics.  The real differences are in weight and cost.  The TBH-II weighs in at about 2.5 lbs while the FAST helmet is 1.5 lbs, both as configured. Now is the biggest factor for many agencies; the TBH-II is $599 and the FAST is in the $1400-1500 range.

If you’re looking for mission configurability, and the cool guy factor, but are willing to accept higher weight, then you may want to consider the Gentex TBH-II MC.

Yes people. Please buy helmets like these which are made to high standards. Stop buying those overnight popup companies selling helmets from alibaba.

Meet ACH requirements? Jumpable According to any organizations?

So better ballistic protection at a third of the price? I realize a pound on your head is a lot, but this new helmet will be major hit. Every airsofter just went running to mommy to get her credit card.

Stupid question time. What purpose does chopping off the ear covering serve. I’ve never had any issues with Peltor or Bose headsets not fitting right and integrating with an ACH or ECH. Are there other headsets considerably more massive that need the space?

    • Hank says:

In my use it gives me the ability to mount the communication headset to the helmet. That in turn allows me to open them up for ventilation and still be able to hear my radio

TBH 2s have been issued to certain British military since 2012 where’s the news here??

Is there any word on when these will be listed on their website? The Ops-Core site lists an LE Fast Helmet, which appears to be the same as the TBH-II. However, the price listed is about $975. Which, oddly enough is not much less than what the FAST helmets listed for, prior to GENTEX taking over.
