This is really useful, a future purchase

I doubt anyone will ever make this, but I wish someone would make a minimalist padded pouch for liquid fuel camp stoves like the Optimus series, MSR XGK, Primus, etc. I haven’t met too many people in the military that bothered with liquid camp stoves, but I’m super paranoid about throwing mine in my pack and then tossing the pack out of the back of a truck, hanging it on the side of a vehicle, packing it down on air force pallets, etc.

Jetboils are simple and they sell canisters at the PX, but I can just as easily acquire JP-8 and run it through my liquid fuel stove for free.

Make friends with the cooks, propane is free, too.

Outdoor Research used to make padded, zipper closed pouches. Not really sure if they make them anymore. The version I have is just big enough for my old MSR XGK stove with the rigid fuel line plus a few extras like the wind screen, lighter, etc. Used to store this pouch and a one liter Sigg fuel bottle in the middle pocket of a large ALICE pack with no problems.

      Hope this helps

Back in the day, I used a wide-diameter piece of white ABS plumbing pipe to create a no-crush space for the fuel bottle, but that old-school multi-fuel MSR X-GK still had that pesky rigid fuel line sticking out, so it required careful packing. A hard shell is what is needed, not so much padding. I believe the new generation X-GK’s have a flexible line.

Anyway, I ended up using my more compact, multi-fuel MSR WhisperLite International more frequently than the X-GK.

The British have the BCB Crusader II canteen/stove set with a pouch that will fit liquid fuel bottles and stuff inside. The version II is larger than the original and comes in Multi Terrain Pattern. I really like their system overall. You can use denatured alcohol with a Trangia burner, solid fuel, or jels.

Can see a lot of uses for a roll top that size!
