FirstSpear Friday Focus – Gloves

Introducing the all new tactical glove line from FirstSpear, the advanced combat system for your hands! Currently available in three distinct styles, the Operator Inner Glove (OIG), Operator Outer Glove (OOG), and Operator Contact Glove (OCG). The entire line was designed three dimensionally to ensure an incredible fit with maximum dexterity featuring Pittards® world class leather known for improved breathability, low water uptake, and soft drying.

The Operator Inner Glove (OIG) is constructed with a core spun merino wool blended with a touch of nylon and premium 100% Pittards® Digital Goatskin Palm. The OIG is the lightest and most tactile glove in the line up offering the most feedback for the user. The trigger finger of the OIG has an advanced patent pending design that will still give excellent transmission of trigger feel, magazine release and other key weapons functions. The OIG can work as a stand-alone capability or when higher durability and toughness is required it can be utilized in conjunction with the Operator Outer Glove (OOG). The advantages in OIG materials and construction is that these gloves almost feel like you are not wearing them and still allow thumb and index finger touch screen compatibility.

In order to achieve this amazing level of peak performance the OIG utilizes extremely light, thin materials which by their very nature will not stand up to extremely long periods of hard abuse and would not be an item you would expect to hand down to your kids like other FS equipment. These gloves should be expected to perform exceptionally well through a standard train up and deployment.

Based upon a battlefield proven design that exposes the trigger finger and thumb for key weapon manipulations the Operator Outer Glove (OOG) is not your average “black leather glove”. The OOG is oversized to fit the OIG underneath for extended resilience and wear performance. Inherently Anti-bacterial odor suppression Goatskin construction with Cow Split palm patch for increased durability and reinforced button holes on the wrist for hooking them to your carabiner. No need to size up on the OOG (large inner glove fits inside large outer glove).

Last but not least the Operator Contact Glove (OCG) is a mid-weight contact glove designed for professional users operating in a wide variety of climates and conditions. The OCG will provide warmth in conditions down to 40F and protection from thermal transfer in conditions up to 160F, all the while extremely light in design and maintaining great dexterity. Materials selected for the OCG reflect the absolute state of the art for light weight, performance and function while maintaining exceptional durability. If a wide range of rugged locations is your potential Area of Operations or you see 3 or more seasons in the execution of your pursuits, consider the OCG for use as an advanced combat system for your hands.

The Hands On Glove Line incorporates materials from outside the USA that meet or exceed the quality and performance of available USA materials. Material and volume restrictions call for the commercial versions to be manufactured in Sri Lanka with a 100% BERRY compliant variant coming soon.

I’ve tried them all and am impressed. The OOG is perfectly sized to fit over the inner gloves. Additionally, the TAA compliant gloves made in Sri Lanka are very high quality. In fact, some of the materials for this glove aren’t even available as Berry compliant yet.

I’m not seeing much of a difference between the OCG and the OIG.

    • MFGuy says:

Collin, that is correct, it’s the same glove in every aspect except 1; warmth. The OCG is a heavier weight back of hand material for increased thermal protection in colder temperatures.

  2. PTMcCain says:

Some of us have XXXL sized hands, really, First Spear.

  3. Ed says:

Is it just me or do they look bulky??

    • SSD says:

Not bulky, unless you mean the OOG. That’s a thicker overglove. I’d say you could fast rope in it but your hands will definitely feel some heat. But the next to skin models, fit like a…well, like a glove.

      • Ed says:

Check, That what I was thinking too. Almost looks like you could FR!
        Thanks!

  4. Non-operator says:

Will the contact gloves fit inside the outer glove without sizing up, like the inner glove?

  5. Bryce says:

Gonna take a lot to pull me away from my SKD PIG gloves!

    • Collin says:

I was thinking the same, though these look like a bit more of a robust option over the Velocity Systems Trigger Gloves.

  6. MidGasFan says:

I go through a set of PIG gloves every few months so I’m happy when they have sales. I seem to blow out the finger tips really quickly and am very interested in trying the Contact Gloves to see if they might hold up better. The conductive thread didn’t even make it through the first few hours.

Maybe I’m just hard on gloves though? I’ve been through OR, Oakley, SKD, Wiley-X, Condor(lucky these even lasted more than a week, they are cheap), and countless others. Out of all that I’ve tried, the Outdoor Research and Mechanix gloves have held up the best and it wasn’t even close compared to the rest.

Still, chewing through gloves is far better than tearing up my fingers and hands!

After typing that out, I’ve just talked myself into ordering a pair of the Operator Contact Gloves. First Spear, here I come!
