Ops-Core Helmet Saves LAPD SWAT Officer’s Life

During a recent callout, a suspect fired a .44 round at a LAPD SWAT officer from an elevated position 7-10 feet away.

The Ops-Core FAST XP Helmet he was wearing, saved his life.

If there’s a lesson in here, it’s wear good kit. If your life depends on it, don’t skimp.

Wonderful news to hear and yes, thank God for not only the helmet but to those who designed this!

Now, I am guessing a hit like this can really ring your bell?

Happens all time on this “work” computer,

Glad he’s alright! Truths about good kit

Looks like that officer was lucky with the round skimming the side of the helmet and just chipping the paint coating. If that 44 round was too have direct impact, it would be like someone hitting you on the head with a sledge hammer, not a good day. Thank god hes allright, and had on his helmet.

Physics say otherwise. Comparing a bullet to a bat is apples to oranges.

” ummm have you seen my Stapler!!”

I took a 7.62×54 round to the back plate. I would compare the impact to a strong batter trying for a home run. It got my attention, but was not painful, as the plate spread the impact, if you will. The bullet passed through the plate, but fragmented, coming to rest in pieces in the soft armor underneath (I was wearing RBAV with LVL 4 plates).

I have seen several GSWs to ballistic helmets. Some penetrated, some did not. Whether or not the round penetrated seemed to be due to the angle of the strike, with oblique impacts failing to penetrate.

Regardless, a good outcome in the present case. Good equipment can and does save lives.

That’s cool. Thanks to the engineers, product designers, chemists, heck even sales people and everyone involved. Not sure god had anything to with with this except perhaps giving the officer courage under fire.
