AUSA 18 – Aimpoint CompM5s Makes American Debut

Aimpoint openly displayed the CompM5s for the first time in the US.

Essentially, it’s the same as the CompM5, but the Comp5s has a low battery compartment.

As a lefty, I’m so glad I held out. I know folks were saying, “can’t make a low battery model because it is supposed to be compatible with Micro mounts.” I knew that was pure bull.

    THANK YOU, Aimpoint.

    • Rog says:

You can see the spacer is different. The battery pack and lower portion of the mount where the spacer used to be is all one piece. It will require new design aftermarket mounts. Same LRP Aimpoint base but much shorter spacer. Existing aftermarket mounts will not work.

      • Dave says:

I couldn’t care less about the mounts. I get what you’re saying, though. I’m just pumped that an S model came out.

    • Lolopuss says:

I read the first three words of your post and thought “why would a liberal be commenting on this” lol

  2. Charlie says:

huh, I could have sworn Aimpoint had said this was impossible due to clearances.

  3. Alpha2 says:

Yup that what was I remember Aimpoint saying after so many people asked why the battery comp was not on the bottom.

  4. Charlie says:

OH, I see now. They’ve raised the whole optic up, the riser is now built into it, giving room for the battery compartment.

  5. Tony says:

Literally the day I bought a Comp M5 after holding out for the “Impossible to make” S model. Of course.

    • J Striker says:

Why don’t you ask the place you bought it from if you can exchange it for this s model when they get it in stock?

  6. A Guest says:

Hell, I’ll take the old Comp M5 off your hands for real cheap if you’ve lost interest in them

  7. Justin says:

I still don’t believe the m5 serves a function that the t2 does not do. The t2 is lighter, shorter giving less tube view, and has all the same functions with the smallest battery compartment. Only advantage of the m5 is the AAA battery is easier and cheaper for every 80,000 hours you change put the battery.

    • NotJustin says:

      Hey Justin,

just to let you know, there are a few more improvements over the previous generation. Not necessarily worth the extra cash, but improvements that make this a better optic for the end user it was developed for.

Take a look, it is a very worthwhile watch.

    • Lasse says:

you said it, AAA. It’s in their M5 press release…

    • JP says:

      Justin,
the Comp M5 was developed at the request of a USG agency. The goal was to have a robust optic that was supportable anywhere.

    • Alex says:

Would be nice to see the T2 get upgraded to 7075-T6 like the M5 at some point.

      • Stephen says:

Huh? Why? The T2’s use a forged body and not a machined billet body which is better for strength, they dont use a forged one becasue there is so much machining required. It’s body actually looks lightened over the M5 and has more different features than i would have expected! Engineering at its finest.

I’m pretty happy with my M4S. It’s solid as hell, 100% functional and I’m not going to fix something that isn’t broken.

However, when i build another SBR that calls for an Aimpoint, this will likely be st the top of my list. Unless of course M4S red dots get even cheaper, then I’ll go with another M4S.
