That silhouette looks kinda weird with the rib not being coverstitched down. Sure, it’s probably a price-point decision, but at $2.50 and it would be better looking.

Lasse, you’ll have to explain a bit more where you’re talking about that should be coverstitched down. If you mean the bottom ribbing, there aren’t many hoodies I’ve seen that feature that. Unless I’m missing something, which is often the case LOL!

Bryan, Don’t worry about it. the overlock stitching used will hold up just fine. He just prefers another method to finish the edge. I’ve got old abused hoodies sewn the same way as yours that are still getting used and washed all the time with zero issues. Two different time tested methods to complete the same mission.

Maybe we just wear different brands of hoodies?

Let me try to explain it without the use of images:
        – Your construction is a rib folded and sewn with an overlock type stitch to the body, I’ll go as far and guess it’s an ASTM D-6193 514 stitch. This leaves the edge (that has been covered by the overlock) free to move around.

        – The construction I prefer has that as the same base construction as yours, but with an additional top stitch done with a coverstitch machine (2 needle type 406 or 3 needle type 407). This allows you to control the lay of the raw edge and therefor the silhouette of the hoodie. If it’s stitched when laying into the body, then the body dominates, and if it’s laying downwards then the rib will dominate.
It’s would also reduce “puffyness” of the rib and gives you a sleeker look. While it’s an additional step that would probably add $2.5 to the retail price (I worded that like the ESL I am), it would in my opinion look a lot better.

If you need a visual explanation, then the Gildan Heavy Blend hoodies have the construction I tried to explain. And it’s probably the most common hoodie in the world.

$40 for a US made hoodie.

It finally looks like someone is paying attention.

Every time TAD or Prometheus (or one of the companies that want to be them) releases a $200 shirt and someone dares to raise their eyebrows at the price, someone else comes on here and tells us that it can’t be done any cheaper in the US.

      Someone is wrong.

    • Alpha2 says:

I think that is a great price too for US made quality that should last, I ordered one and am sure I will wear the hell outta it.

Always a fan of ITS’s ideas. But why 50% cotton? Poor drying performance in the field for sure. Was a Polartec fabric too much for the price target?
