Samson Manufacturing Releases New SOPROD Cleaning Rod

KEENE, NH – Samson Manufacturing released their new SOPROD™ Cleaning Rod accessory at the 2019 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The SOPROD™ (Patent Pending) returns gun-mounted solid cleaning rod capabilities to firearms equipped with stocks featuring battery compartments.

Designed to fit all battery-compartment style, adjustable stocks on the market, the SOPROD ™ enables users to clear stuck cases and other bore obstructions. The SOPROD™ ships with enough extensions to clean a 20” barrel. Included are two self-adhesive rubber bumpers to line the ends of the storage compartment, and two rubber O-rings which keep the sections together and rattle-free.

An available accessory kit includes a rotating-head which accepts standard GI bore and chamber brushes, and a thread adapter for commercial cleaning accessories. Constructed of solid brass or stainless steel, the SOPROD™ is designed to withstand the abuses GI cleaning rods are regularly subjected to.

While a stand-alone product, the SOPROD™ can be used in conjunction with the patented SOPROD™ Field Survivor™ tool which fits into the cavity of a standard A2 pistol grip or Magpul™ MIAD™. The Field Survivor™ has a male-threaded adapter to act as a handle for the SOPROD™ in its cleaning capacity, and includes a broken shell extractor, bore brush, sight adjustment tool, and a compartment with two spare M4 firing pin retainers.

With the SOPROD™, end-users no longer need to tape cleaning rods to their handguards in the field, or dig one out of their pack under duress. The SOPROD™ rides silently in its compartment until needed and can get your rifle back in action in seconds.

Suggested MSRP is $24.95 for brass, and $22.95 for the stainless version. Agency/unit/bulk pricing is available upon request.

Seems like a potentially useful product. Has anyone seen anyone taping cleaning rods on their AR’s handguard though?

    • SVGC says:

Taping rods or a small cleaning kit to hand guards used to be pretty common in the various recce communities many moons ago. But I have not seen it in a long time. I used to have rods and a small kit in a popup flare tube ziptied to my ruck incase i plunged my barrel into any crazy mud I found myself falling in on infiil.

    • James says:

Stuck cases used to be a thing.

    • Jon, OPT says:

Used to be pretty common with the older Sims kits, never saw it done with live rounds, but heard of it.

God I wish I had that in Afghan. We resort d to bootbanding sections to our hand guards.

Or slamming in down on a hard object as hard as possible. Been there got a case that broke away from the bullet. Bullet stuck in the barrel and case came out and dumped the powder all down the internals of my M4. Note to everyone, your firearm in now no longer combat effective since if you pull the trigger the lower receiver can blow up. I didn’t know this. So when I had this happen on the range mind you. I was immediately pulled off the line and told to use the cleaning bath. Btw, I was in basic when this happened. Never owned let alone fired a firearm before.

In a combat situation you could have just opened your receiver and dumped the excess powder. I doubt it would have blown up. In training they will be overly cautious which is fine.

Very cool! Definitely better then slipping a T-handle GI rod down the back webbing of your PC, or attaching to your forearm Vietnam style.

This is a great idea. I love how they thought about the rattling. You put AA batteries in those tubes and they make so much noise. Not that the Velcro on our uniforms is quite when used. I’m in for the purchase of both pieces.

I thought of this years ago when I bought my SOPMOD stock. I’m glad someone finally brought it to market. Wish I would have done it. If the company is listening, a heavy duty (steel or aluminum) oil bottle that fits inside the SOPMOD stock tubes would be nice.
