Shield Arms 15 Round Glock 43X/48 Magazine

Bigfork, MT, March 4, 2019 – Shield Arms is pleased to announce a reliable and durable 15 round steel magazine prototype for the Glock 43X and 48 pistols that is the same length as an OEM Glock 43X/48 magazine. Glock recently released both the 43X and 48 pistols for the concealed carry market, but a common complaint from consumers is that both pistols are limited to 10 round magazines.

We are currently tooling up for a summer release, with a projected MSRP of $39.99, followed closely by the release of an increased capacity Glock 43 magazine – stay tuned for details. Sign up for the newsletter at shieldarms.com to stay up-to-date on this and other exciting product releases.

15 rounds without an increase in length?
Sounds like a winner!…(and black magic!)

Have been saying this for years and am glad someone’s finally coming out with one (and hopefully for other Glocks too). The polymer’s just too thick and seriously limits capacity. They steel line them anyways… so why not just make them in thin walled steel and increase capacity significantly. My main focus was on the 43 (then the 43x and 48). If they (finally) didn’t have to worry about mag compatibility, then why design the mag the same if it will significantly reduce capacity? (and then they did it twice more with the 43x and 48). I was actually about to make my own G43 mags to prove my point. I think I can make a 8-9 (maybe 10) round magazine for the G43 without increasing size (could possibly be better than the P365, which is what I think the G43 should have been). I do wish it was me that was coming out with them, but being disabled, I haven’t had much of a chance.

… must be a metal mag? Thinner walls and a smaller follower are the only tricks I could see to make this happen. Very cool, but I’ll let someone else beta test this.

    • EzGoingKev says:

That is what I was thinking too. After checking out Sig’s P365 mag I wondered about a steel mag for my Glock 43.

    • nj_lawman says:

It is metal. It says right in the article that its a steel 15 round mag.

    • SSD says:

      Fucking read!

    • Rick says:

I don’t even have the gun yet but I’ll be. buying the magazine first and gun after the gun is easy to get. the magazine may be impossible to get

    • Marty says:

I would probably sell my 23 and get a 43x or a 48 holster f these are that good.

  3. CAP says:

You know, if Glock would have made the 48 just a quarter inch wider, they could probably have gotten 15 rounds in the magazine.

    /sarcasm

  4. Carlos says:

I may have to hold off buying the Gen 5 Glock 19 and seriously look into this. I wonder if you have to replace the magazine release to a metallic one in order to ensure reliability?

  5. TED says:

Bastards stole my idea! I thought of this many years ago and have posted about it more than once. Most people made fun of and dismissed my idea but Shield Arms stole it! For example…

    • Erik says:

Problem is the mags wouldn’t be double stacked, instead the interior would be wide enough to triple stack.

  6. Mike says:

Well maybe Shield Arms are deplorable as well as inglorious bastards. LOL!
I know I have blogged this too for many years and glad to see it.
How come every gun in the world other than a Glock uses metal mags and is reliable, EDC (Every Day Carry) and combat trusted, but some how a Glock has to have a Polymer mag to be Reliable , EDC and Combat trusted? Makes no sense to me. Bravo Shield Arms for doing this for us Glock EDC users.

    • Jay Andre says:

Glock does make metal magazines for all their guns. They’re just plastic coated. I guess this company figured out, if they take the plastic covering off the magazine, thy could make it a bit fatter to accommodate 5 more rounds. However they do it, Kudo’s to them, for figuring out how to make it work. I will certainly buy 2. I might even buy a complete 48 slide from an online company, that’s selling brand new ones, for $369, plus $5 shipping!!!

  7. Pete says:

Please make similar mags for the 43 and 42!

  8. whatgorilla says:

    1) You can actually get 11rds in the G43X/48 mags, and they do easily seat with one in the chamber…but it might be over-compressing the spring.
    2) I think once people saw the G43X/48 mag was as big as the SIG mag in most ways (except longer), people assumed mecgar would come out with a 13rd or 14rd mag. 15rds is insane, but good for them as long as it’s 100%. So far, the aftermarket Glock mags haven’t had the greatest reputation (even the magpul and ETS ones), though most use them for practice or gaming.

    • TED says:

If Mec-Gar made metal Glock mags that increased capacity while still being reliable that would be the cat’s meow for sure.

I’d also like to see Mec Gar make a 10rd flush fit or close Walther CCP mag.

  9. James says:

The Idea of metal Glock mags has been around since the 90’s , since people started asking for something like the 48, but never gained ground due to the 10rd restrictions. It just wouldn’t have given much benefit.

Hope these catch on, may be a few other guns in the line that could benefit from it. It also makes me wonder about a 43 length frame that will accept 48 mags- 11/12 Rd 43?

  10. Bill says:

What is the capacity of the anticipated Glock 43 magazine?

    • Jeremy E Metcalf says:

      Are you fucking serious?

      • Rich Walton says:

Seems like a valid question to me. Is it going up to 10? 11? 12?

      • HSR47 says:

I’m pretty sure he’s asking about the hypothetical mag for the 43 (the old 6+1 gun, not the 10+1 43X) that they teased at the end of the article, but gave no specific details on.

      • Bill says:

Maybe they need to come up with a reading comprehension extension for Poor Jeremy….

    • John says:

Umm, the answer is in the title.

      • Tyler says:

I guess I’m missing where they listed the expected capacity for the new 43 magazine. I checked the title multiple times.

  11. Marty says:

Heck I would do it if I could have 8 in the 43, then also accept my current Pearce +1 or Vickers +2 to give me 9 or 10+1

That would definitely be a win! Provided it reliable of course.

I have already done the drawings on this and been trying to find someone local to make these.

They could sell easily for $35 each and fly off the shelf

    • Don says:

I would have liked some rapid fire shooting to see if there were any feeding issues.

      • Marty says:

Another video does show rapid fire, all 15 rounds in about 4 seconds

        • Dusty Casto says:

Uummm, can’t wait!! I Wish they would release it already ?
          Game changer, want them now!
