USSOCOM has made the following announcement regarding the purchase of the Advanced Sniper Rifle:

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Inc., Christiana, Tennessee, was awarded an estimated $49,936,300, five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract (H92403-19-D-0002) for the purchase of advanced sniper rifles in support of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Fiscal 2019 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $387,234 are being obligated at the time of award. The work will be performed in Christiana, and is scheduled to be completed by March 2024. The solicitation was posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website under “full and open competition” and six proposals were received. USSOCOM, Tampa, Florida, is the contracting activity.

The ASR replace the Precision Sniper Rifle manufactured by Remington. The new ASR is the Barrett Multi-Role Adaptive Design and will fire the 338 Norma Mag, 300 NM and 7.62 NATO cartridges.

  1. Jake says:

Didn’t they replace to .300NM with .300 PRC or were they just looking into it?

  2. Matt says:

The IDF seems to be moving towards making the MRAD their standard Sniper Rifle too.

  3. Trevor says:

What optic will SOF run on this rifle?

  4. HENRY says:

WHY IS IT THAT “ssd” must come back with a juvenile response to those who have a legitimate question–or impression ?

    • SSD says:

If you didn’t read it here, chances are good it wasn’t fact checked and that the author either has no idea what he’s talking about and/or can point you to the plungers in aisle six.

  5. HENRY says:

He just can’t resist throwing sand in the playground

  6. henry says:

Thank you for continuing to make my case

    • SSD says:

Why are you so triggered over my failure to be impressed by websites who promise “news” but instead provide lies?

  7. Colin says:

Both 6.5CM & .300PRC have been shown in this blog to be of interest to usa dod. Can someone tell me the end users of these cartridges .

    • SSD says:

USSOCOM, as has been written here. However, as of right now, neither are part of the ASR requirement.

      • Colin says:

SSD Thank you for your reply .Sorry too ask the same question twice , but I come here for the facts and it wasn’t clear too me . Now I know . I just wait for the barrel change notice from ussocom for the Barrett mrad , m110A1 HK , m110 Knights , Scar h ( +mk20 ) FN . To be solicited later for these two sniping/marksman cartridges. Ta !

        • SSD says:

You’re likely to see 7.62 swapped out for 6.5 CM, but do not hold your breath on 300 PRC.

          • SVGC says:

The thing that’s a little confusing is we’re steaming ahead with 7.62 BDC holds in SVPS instead of planning for 6.5CM. Understood there’s not really a round yet, just seems… interesting.

  8. Hmmm, Barrett seems to think they are contracted to produce MRADs with .300PRC caliber conversion kits. Spoke with Ronnie Barrett and Barrett Manager for Military Sales at NRA-Indy about availability of MRAD caliber conversion kit in .300PRC as offered on their web site. He indicated that they will not ship commercial orders until they are caught up on military orders for this caliber. No acknowledgement of 6.5CM for military MRADs. One would think Barrett would know. The MRAD will be designated MK25 replacing Remington MSR, which was chambered in 7.65×51, 300WM, 338LM.

    • SSD says:

Yes, they are building 300 PRC kits or someone in the government.

They are not manufacturing any ASR yet. The program hasn’t even gone into first article test yet.

Stop putting two and two together and coming up with five.
