ANZAC Day

I’ll tip back a pint this evening in memory of all the ANZAC troops, from World War One’s Battle of Gallipoli to the battle fought today. I’ll think of friends in both Australian and New Zealand militaries and good times deployed to bad places.

I had the privilege to serve alongside 5th and 7th Special Forces Groups during my 25 years in the Australian Army.
A great bunch of comrades united against a common foe.
I remember the great times with great allies.

Many years ago, one of my COs raised a glass at a Dining Out to offer a toast to “the one ally who has fought by our side in every conflict the United States has been involved in since that nation’s founding: Australia.”

Years later, I served alongside our Australian allies at Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. Thank you, my brothers.

I never served, but know a few Aussies that serve or did and it gives me chills reading anything about this day. Australia has done so much for us, especially when you factor in how small of a country they are. A serving friend showed me the commonwealth patch he was given and it brought a tear to my eye.
