LWRCI Rolls Out New SMG .45

CAMBRIDGE, MARYLAND (7/3/2019): One of the most exciting product releases in LWRCI™ company history is finally here. LWRCI™ announces the release of its first pistol-caliber carbine – the SMG-45. This highly-anticipated SMG model combines the company’s experience on the AR platform with an innovative delayed-blowback/short-recoil operating system that delivers a unique pistol-caliber carbine shooting experience.

“We listened closely to shooters, operators, and customers throughout the development of this exciting new platform for LWRCI™,” says David Ridley, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The SMG is truly a ‘Step-Up’ pistol-caliber carbine that offers our customers innovative features and comfortable ergonomics in a compact package.”

Built from the ground up around US-manufactured UMP magazines, the SMG-45 is a completely new PCC in .45 ACP that features many of the same controls and performance attributes found in LWRCI™’s luxury gas-piston AR lineup. LWRCI™’s commitment to craftsmanship and design excellence is clearly evident in the SMG-45: the firearm delivers the high performance that discerning shooters demand alongside the quality and innovation that customers have come to expect from LWRCI™.

Constructed of advanced aluminum and steel alloys and protected with hard-coat anodizing, ferritic nitrocarburization, and nickel-boron surface treatments, the SMG is built to last. Features on the SMG include a signature fully-ambidextrous lower receiver with AR-style controls for the safety and bolt catch/release, a paddle magazine release, the LWRCI™ Ultra Combat Grip™, and an LWRCI™ Enhanced Fire Control Group™. The upper includes an 8.5” cold- hammer-forged CrMoV steel barrel, LWRCI’s familiar Modular Rail System with LWRCI™ Rail Panels and Hand Stop installed at 3/6/9 o’clock, Magpul MBUS Pro sights, and more. The launch configuration for the SMG-45 is a pistol equipped with the SB Tactical SBTi folding subgun brace. The SMG-45 ships with two 25-round magazines.

To coincide with America’s Independence Day the SMG-45 Pistol+Brace began shipping on July 2 and is expected to be ready for retail from an authorized LWRCI Wholesale Distributor or Premier Dealer by early next week.  For more information on the LWRCI™ SMG-45, visit www.lwrci.com.

I dig it. Way back I wanted to get an HK USC to convert to UMP. I think this is already a more attractive package and having owned an LWRC rifle previously I can say they make a good product. Lookin forward to this.

  2. El Terryble says:

Definitely worth a look. LWRCI should look into producing a 10mm version as well.

  3. Amer-Rican says:

I concur with both of the above comments- LWRCi makes legit firearms, and a model built for “full power 10mm” would be fantastic.
By choice I only buy ARs from companies who make both piston and DI rifles, so it’s nice to see one of them innovate like this.

“By choice I only buy ARs from companies who make both piston and DI rifles”

      May I ask your reasoning?

  4. Ross says:

A little off topic, anyone know what happened to their REPR platform?

    • Eric Lautz says:

They still make them. You can buy one right now at xtreme guns and ammo(google it). Lwrc males pretty legit weapon systems. I own one and its AMAZE-BALLS!

      • Ross says:

Their website still has a link for REPR but noting is listed for sale. I am looking for a 16″ upper to switch out with the 20″ I already own. Love the gun but it is a heavy platform for hiking/patrol. Another person I spoke to said LWRC was switching back to the side charging handle. I though maybe they are retooling so that is why the website doesn’t have any listed right now.
I share most of the comments viewpoints, LWRC makes a quality firearm. Their piston system works well from my experience. I did have a negative experience with their tech support but no worse than many other respected companies I have interacted with. Called with: Hey, are you aware that the cheek piece on the PRS stock doesn’t allow charging handle to fully extend? LWRC: we have never heard of that issue. So I think, did anyone ever test the gun using the stock prior to offering it for sale? Anyway, thanks for the input.

        • Adam says:

LWRCI doesn’t sell complete firearms on their website, but the website has not been updated to any extent in a long time. MKII uppers can probably be ordered through a dealer. I would contact Xtreme Guns & Ammo.

It sounds like your REPR MKII had the AR-15 version PRS stock installed instead of the AR-10 model. Every gun that LWRCI ships out is function tested before it leaves the facility. That error would have gone unnoticed if the cheek piece was left flush. I would contact them again and explain that scenario if you are still dealing with the issue.

  5. Keith says:

I am really digging the wave of PCCs. My only issue is that by the time I’m ready to get one I’ll be paralyzed with the paradox of choice!

  6. mark says:

Very pleased to see a purpose built PCC, rather then yet another AR chambered in a pistol caliber.

  7. Easy E says:

Coming in at just shy of $3,000 (from my quick internet search, maybe there are far better street prices), this prices it out of my budget. However, it’s cool that they’re making the effort to develop this platform. Price woes aside, I’d also likely be more interested in a 9mm (LWRC does say 9mm conversion kits are on the way) just because I’m invested in that caliber — having both a 9mm AR- + 45 ACP AR-SBR, I find myself shooting the 9mm far more often.

I do hope they continue development of that platform, as the price tag may not always be out of my range (plus, as we all know, they’re not designing this firearm for me anyways). It certainly looks pretty cool as well.

  8. Eric Lautz says:

I really like that they went with the .45 Acp (10mm would have been better) but I truly dont understand the 9mm pcc attraction, its a good handgun round because its controlable for most people in a handgun, but if your going to have the bigger easier to shoot platform of a pcc i really dont see the benifits, other then being able to use same ammo in both guns and u can do that with .45, or 10mm too.

    • Adun says:

Using 9mm in a PCC does make it easier to shoot at distance due to there being less drop. I am all for 10mm PCCs though.

  9. Bob M says:

If a 10mm version comes out, I’ll be first in line for the preorder. Very cool.

  10. Ross says:

Why the rail mount all the way back past the ejection port I wonder?? Is the charging lever reciprocating?

  11. Agent K says:

I handled the prototype about two years ago at LWRCi. I am glad to see it has been put into production. Before going to their facility I wasn’t a huge fan but after seeing their processes and quality control they definitely turned me. Top notch business.
