Outdoor Retailer Cancels Winter Market, Combines With Snow Show’s

Apparently three shows a year was too much so OR has cancelled the Winter Market originally scheduled for this November and combined it with the Snow Show to create a combined Outdoor + Snow Show, January 29 – 31, 2020.

Attendees will be refunded their registration fee for Winter Market and those companies who purchased November booth space may be refunded or apply their fee toward a booth at the new, combined show in January.

From here on out, there will be two shows per year, each three days in duration. Since January, 2018, Denver has hosted the shows. OR is contracted to remain in Denver until 2022.

I missed this train on this one and haven’t been able to find any recent news via google about OR. Can you give me the short on this?

Patagonia and a number of other retailers boycotted Salt Lake city for their support in reversing the Obama era takeover of federal lands. So the “outdoor industry” left and took OR to Denver, I’m guessing at a much higher cost.

Make’s sense, while the apparel brands would’ve been pleased, the footwear and ski brands would not have had their samples by the Nov show, thus mediocre attendance. Having just the Jan date, while late for apparel deadlines, is familiar territory for merchants/buyers attending, not to mention it doesn’t take them away from the all-important holiday business in Nov-Dec.

Why cant these people figure this out?
Once again it will overlap with ISPO and so only the largest brands maybe will be at OR.
    What a waste.
