SIG SAUER - Never Settle

SCUBAPRO Sunday – Midway

The movie Midway is one of my favorite WW2 movies. They used a lot of real footage from the battle that was shot by director John Ford during the actual battle, (He also directed, They were Expendable, and Mister Roberts) you can tell it was old footage, but it does helps tell the story. So far Hollywood has not done a great job “remaking” movie or retelling the same story. They killed Red Dawn. Hopefully they use the same mindset that was used for Saving private Ryan, Band of Brothers and even Fury.

John Ford is also the master behind Stagecoach and The Man who Shot Liberty Valance to name a few.

The CGI looks cheesy in the trailer. I hope it turns out better than that.

The movie is directed by Roland Emmerich – it’s going to be cheesy regardless of who’s making the visual effects.

Redoing these movies is so easy, I don’t know how they screw it up so badly.

Much of this film was made in my home town of Pensacola, and they used the USS Lexington (at the time CVC 16) for much of the aircraft carrier sequences. At the ti me, the producers said it was a lot easy to get a lot of extras all with military haircuts in 1976 than anywhere else in the country at the time. 🙂

Note: The ORIGINAL Midway, the one with Chuck Heston (whom we went to visit while he was in town), he played some tennis at the Pensacola Country Club and we got to meet him. Awesome experience for a 12 year old kid!
