I consider my runners kit bag to be pretty ideal, but i can see the appeal of this for urban environments. I’ve been sent on honey-dos after my runs and gotten more than a few odd looks. Turns out that the coyote tan pouch jutting out from my chest looks pretty normal on the jogging paths, but stands out a little in the local walmart.

The kit bags are practical, but they are anything but what I would consider “normal” in any environment.

I’m starting to think “gun people” are a bit too insulated from normies to have the proper perspective on what is actually normal at this point..

I got stopped on my bike one day by somebody else walking on the trail. They had seen my kit bag and said “I know what that is, and what you’ve got in it, I just want to know where you got it”. I think people who generally know what they are looking for can pick out these types of things. While I agree that gun people, especially the type of folks who live and breath firearms, can be a little insulated from even the rest of the “normal” gun owning public, the reality is your average citizen is so absorbed in everyday life that unless you wave it in their face, chances are low they will notice. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, then how will you recognize it when you see it?

This is a refrain I have heard time and again over the years – it doesn’t matter if you wear weird gun person shit, because none of the “sheeple” are paying attention anyway!

I believe the community is prone to underestimating Joe Public in this way. People notice more than forum posters seem to believe they do. I think this is a kind of mental safety blanket that the tactical teddies start clutching when they subconsciously realize that they do look like a model in a firearms catalog.

It is also a fallacy, because it’s not Joe Public or Soccer Mom Suzie you’re attempting to be discreet towards. It’s the predatory parts of humanity. And you had best believe that they are paying attention to you and what you’re wearing.

I’m not saying I disagree with you fundamentally. But you said “normies”, not predators. I guess I should have clarified that up to a certain point, most normal people aren’t going to know any different because they don’t have any experience to tell them to know what they are looking for. Wearing a camo fanny pack and a pew pew life shirt is probably not going to go as unnoticed as my S&W 640 in the front pocket of my jeans with my regular guy polo shirt. Like a lot of things, it exists on a spectrum. If you are too far along the tactical timmy spectrum you are probably more likely to get noticed.
