SIG SAUER - Never Settle

BCM SHOT Show Countdown – BCM Comp

We’ve already introduced you to a couple of Bravo Company USA’s 2013 line of rifles and accessories including HSP’s The Jack Carbine as well as the BCM RECCE-14, Mk2. Today, we get an up close look at the new BCM Comp.

The new BCM Comp is designed to reduce muzzle rise as well as flash signature in addition to noise to the shooter as well as lateral pressure for those around him. It’s threaded 1/2″ x 28 and designed for use with 5.56 weapons.

The BCM Comp is available in two models. The Mod 0 has an overall length of 1.75″ making it perfect for SBRs and the Mod 1 has an overall length of 2.125″ which is more than adequate to bring a standard 14.5″ barrel into compliance as a rifle length weapon.

This is a first look. They should be available in in stock later today.

  1. Dave the Rave says:

Wow, good to know. I didn’t the feds measured barrel length to the end of the compensator. I’ll have to check it out.

    • Chris says:

They consider it part of the overall barrel length if it is permanently attached.

    • tlw613sp says:

They don’t if it is just screwed on. If it is pinned to the barrel then it is considered part of the barrel and included in the length. But only if it is pinned and the BATF has requirements on how to pin it.

    • Matt says:

The muzzle device MUST be permanently affixed.

    • dave says:

      Only if it’s pinned.

  2. Dave the Rave says:

    (didn’t REALIZE the feds)

  3. Markus says:

Dave – If I understand correctly, they measure the barrel out to the end of the compensator only if the compensator is permanently attached (pinned). If you don’t want to permanently attach a compensator, you need to have a 16″ barrel.

  4. Paul says:

What booth number are you guys at during the SHOT show? Didn’t see that you on the list of exhibitors..

    • Evan says:

I was wondering this as well, it is our first year with a booth (Griffin Armament) and as usual BCM is doing so much business they haven’t had time to reply to emails. That must be a great problem to have.

If anyone hears what booth they will be at please let us know here.

  5. Jack says:

They only measure to the end of the compensator when the compensator is “permanently” attached to the barrel – otherwise, it’s to the end of the barrel. Don’t make that mistake, or you’ll get gigged for having an improperly taxed SBR – bad place to be!

  6. si-ko says:

Dave, the brake has to be permanently pinned to the 14.5 to make it legal.just given u a heads up.i need a new comp, but want to see more reviews first.

    • Brian says:

I’d like to know more about the engineering that went into this design. Is there a sectional drawing we could see? An animation showing the dissipation of gases would be cool, too.

  7. Tholl223 says:

Only if it is permanently attached can you measure to the end of it

  8. Tony says:

Dave, the comp also has to be permanently attached for a 14.5″ barrel to reach the legal 16″ barrel length. Pinning and welding is the most popular procedure.

Might have to try this out. I’m gonna hold out for the new KAC MAMs device to mate with their new suppressors.

  9. People4Targets says:

It has to be welded or pinned in place.

  10. J Fonz says:

@Dave- Only if the compensator is permanently attached.

  11. wb says:

@Dave: Yes, the barrel length is measured to the end of the compensator BUT the compensator has to be permanently attached to the barrel. If you have a 14″ barrel and simply screw the compensator onto the barrel you still have a 14″ barrel which is a NFA firearm.

  12. Jay The Fillet says:

Can a Gemtech Halo mount up to that?

  13. P. Schwartz says:

Hmm… Looks a lot like the VLTOR comp.

  14. Ghosted says:

It’s great that SSD is doing this, it would be even better if you actually order BCM guns. Seems like a waste of article.

  15. Axel says:

Where may I get that offset mount for the aimpoint (center of the 3 photos)

  16. Dave the Rave says:

Not trying to get away from the meat of the original article, but what point of the other end of the barrel do they measure too? To the lugs? To the wide part of the forcing cone? To the narrow part of the forcing cone?

    • Chuck says:

I believe they measure DOWN the barrel. Measure a 16″ mark on a dowel rod and drop it down the barrel till it hits the bolt face (closed). Your measured mark should be below or at the end of your muzzle or device. Can anyone confirm this?

  17. Andrew says:

That BCM rail looks interesting to say the least…

    • John W says:

Looks to me like a Centurion C4 with BCM branding.

      • Paul says:

Yes, Quad rail is Centurion of BCM logo and Centurion logo.
The tubular rail is the same thing from Midwest Ind.
Their is also a Geissele rail and a DD MK18 FDE rail.
        Thanks!

        • Eric C. says:

Does anyone know if BCM is going to be selling these re-branded rails? Or was it only for marketing picture purposes?

  18. Chuck says:

What does the ATF classify this as? A Brake or a Flash hider?

  19. Chris says:

Bcm might want to change how they advertise this. Drop mention of the reduction in flash signature and market it solely as a comp/brake. Doing so future-proofs the item against some potential legislative threats, and opens it up for sale to those of us in CA with featureless builds.

  20. dan says:

That would be the heat for use with a Gemtech HALO suppressor. Looks like the tapered first “baffle” would help sound reduction.

  21. Curly says:

    No 5/8-24? no intrest.

  22. Burned says:

    7.62 version coming when??

  23. Jason says:

Is that a BCM tube on the upper rifle in the middle picture?? Looks fantastic…

  24. AKo says:

Paul, how does this compare in terms of compensation compared to other comps out there like the TTB, MB556K and BattleComp etc?

  25. From the testing I have done this BCM comp is the best blend to date for a ‘tactical’ comp ( I did a full write up on M4carbine.net ) and it is hands down the best in the side muzzle blast department

I am not the worlds biggest comp fan by a long shot but if I were in the market for one I would take a long hard look at the BCM comp

    Just sayin’
