Warrior West – Massif

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

We recently wrote about the new Army Combat Shirt – Type II created specifically for use with the Soldier Plate Carrier System.  Many readers seemed displeased with that Army directed design and mentioned several attributes they’d like to see in an improved design.  Massif is already one step ahead of you with their new Advanced 1/4 Zip Combat Shirt (FR).

This commercially available FR combat shirt incorporates a 1/4 zip polo style collar along with increased printed FR fabric that extends down the aide of the garment to increase camouflage. Additionally, the SuperFabric elbows will accept padding.

Offered in Black, OD and MultiCam sizes XS – XXXL.

Army Combat Shirt Type II

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015

The US Army is fielding an updated version of the Army Combat Shirt called the Type II (still in OEF-CP). The ACS Type II has a narrower torso to accommodate the SPC which requires the shirt to offer more camo coverage on the yoke, chest, and sides. Massif is selling an ACS Type II, with slight fit modifications, but the same camo/solid configuration as the Army’s. As you can see it also incorporates a zippered, polo-style collar.

Commercial Army Combat Pant

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

PEO Soldier has finally dispensed with the awkward “Flame Resistant Improved Army Combat Uniform Trouser” and finally called it what it is, an Army Combat Pant (ACP). What’s even better is that they are taking the next step from the pre-solicitation released in late June and have a released a full solicitation for a Commercial Army Combat Pant. This methodology leaves the details open to the vendor and gives general guidelines on the construction of the pants to the vendor. Proposals are due by 25 August 2011 at 3:00 PM EST so if you have a product to offer you’d better get your submission together.

This is a photo of a prototype.

It is going to make a great companion for the Army Combat Shirt and this is a big win for the Soldier.

The Importance of FR

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

We think it’s good to offer evidence every once in awhile as to how well military issue personal protective equipment works. In this interview of SFC Sarah Walker who survived a suicide bomb attack, you will see that the Army Combat Shirt built by Massif Mountain Gear is a great example of a product designed to combine comfort and protection. The video also demonstrates how critical FR protection is by showing the contrast of her burned and protected skin.

Massif’s Combat Shirt in MultiCam

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Available from USCAV.

And So It Begins…

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The Army dropped a rather large sources sought notice today for Fire Resistant Army Combat Uniforms (FR-ACUs) in MultiCam. Up to 40,000 sets per month for six to eight months are to be delivered pre-treated in Permethrin. The short notice to answer (10 days) is indicative of the dedication to quick fielding that PEO-Soldier is paying to this issue. Expect to see numerous other solicitations hit the street soon.

It is very important to note that, based on information already released by PEO-Soldier, they are only planning on fielding clothing and equipment that would be used on a combat patrol. This includes FR-ACUs as well as Army Combat Shirts. The new ACS will feature MultiCam sleeves and Coyote torso. For those Soldiers leaning forward in the foxhole, this does NOT include the 50/50 NYCO ACU that you currently wear in garrison and on the FOB. I would not suggest that you run out and purchase a basic load of ACUs in MultiCam just yet. I am still awaiting additional information on this subject but as of now, based on what has already been said, Soldiers deployed to Afghanistan will find themselves in the standard ACU in UCP while on an FOB or other deployed base and wearing MultiCam FR ACUs while outside the wire.
