Stuff I Like – Wildfire GORE-TEX Men’s Shoes

I got a pair of these when Salewa first introduced the Black color. I’ve just bought my third pair on a whim when I saw them in stock at Tidewater Tactical because I was worried they’d stop making them. Much to my relief, I see that Salewa continues to offer this model and color scheme.

You’ll often see me wearing them at trade shows, particulary if it’s wet outside. That’s a pretty good testament to their comfort if I’m willing to walk around all day on concrete in them.

The Wildfire features a GORE-TEX Extended Comfort lining and POMOCA Speed MTN sole which is pretty grippy. Additionally, there is an edging zone at the toe along with lacing down to the toe so you can get by pretty well in a simple climb.

Coming Soon – DEFCON x Vans Black / Woodland Collection

Launching Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, DEFCON has alerted us to their latest collaboration with Vans. These are the most advanced shoes they’ve offered yet and there will be two models as well as some clothing.

Defcon resumes regular programming after seeing March’s collaboration with Half Face Blades sell out in less than 90 seconds.

It’s been three years since the last Vans x DEFCON release, and with after market prices fetching $1k+ for a pair of shoes, DEFCON reminded us that you’ll need to have your account locked and loaded this weekend.

The current capsule features a Woodland Camo print, with every pair featuring a varied and random pattern placement. No two pair will be alike. The internal shape has been modified to accommodate a slightly wider front toe utilizing the VLT construction, new insole and gusseting system, and most notably the inclusion of the Gore-Tex liner, making this build the best performing to date.

They are extremely comfy. I wore a pair around town yesterday.

There are also some very cool customizations throughout.

AKU CRODA DFS GTX Men’s Lightweight Mountaineering Boots

IWA 22 – Lowa Task Force

Lowa has been working on updating several boots in the Task Force line including the ever popular Zephyr.

While maintaining the the overall look of the boot, they’ve updated the materials and they are now fully certified to CE EN ISO 20347:2012 standard. The lacing system now features a locking hook and there’s a lace storage pocket at the top of the tongue. They’ve also enlarged the loop at the rear of the heel.

Additionally, the X-TRAC military outsole is new and incorporates a fast rope arch.

One interesting design change is that they’ve moved the seam at the side of the toe further back so that it won’t separate over time due to flexing. You can the new seam location on the Mk2 at the left compared to the original construction of the Zephyr at the right.

in this layout you can see the update extends to low, mid, and hi versions of the Zephyr MK2, in all colors as well.
