CamelBak’s Advanced Chemical and Biological Resistant Reservoir Receives US Army Approval

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

CamelBak Products, LLC, announced earlier this week that its Chem Bio Reservoir X™ (CBR X), the next-generation of hydration safety equipment, meets the US Army’s stringent requirements for a Multi-Purpose Personal Hydration System and is able to withstand 6 hours of chemical challenge after the rigors of 30 days of use, making it easier and safer to stay hydrated in a CBRN threat environment. This means CamelBak is offering a single reservoir that can be used everyday yet meets the rigors of a slimed environment. It seems as though we have been in the COIN fight for so long we have forgotten the old days of the 20th century where we trained exhaustively to fight and win in a CBRN environment.

Camelbak combined their DuraFlex Barrierâ„¢ material, HydroGuardâ„¢ technology and HydroLinkâ„¢ modular attachment systems to create the new CBR X reservoir. “We design, test and manufacture our hydration systems to perform in the most challenging and lethal environments in the world,” said Sally McCoy, CEO of CamelBak. They introduced their first chemical and biological resistant reservoir in 2000 and while they were issued to several units, CamelBak had never received certification from the Army.

CamelBak has been working with the Army on this for YEARS. They stuck with it through all of the technical challenges and kept up with evolving threats to stay at the cutting edge of Chem-Bio protection technology. Thanks guys.

Camelbak Big Jump Pack Now Airborne Certified

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Camelbak developed the Big Jump to satisfy a requirement out of the 82nd Airborne Division for an assault pack with integrated air items. After extensive testing it has been air drop certified by the Airborne and Special Operations Test Directorate at Ft Bragg, NC. The pack is feature laden as you can see below, but a couple of items stick out. The back panel’s padding channels have been specially designed to allow the harness to be stowed out of the way during jumps. Additionally, a single-point release has been integrated into the bottom of the pack.

Camelbak’s New Products

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Camelbak unveiled a couple of new technologies the recent OR Summer Market in Salt Lake City, Utah. While they are intended for the commercial outdoor market, they have great applicability in the tactical realm as well.

Camelbak All ClearCamelbak Flow Meter

The Flow Meter is designed to measure how much fluid has been consumed, how much remains in the reservoir, and how much time remains until the reservoir is empty. It can also be set to see if you are consuming fluid at a preset rate in order to help avoid heat injuries. While new reservoirs will be available with the Flow Meter already installed, units will be available to modify existing products.

These products will be available as early as Fall 2009 from Camelbak.

Camelbak’s New Direct Armor Attachment System

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

During OR we posted an short teaser about Camelbak’s new line of bladders designed to be fitted directly to armor vests. The Direct Armor Attachment System has been adapted to three new packs ArmorBak, ThermoBak, and the Ambush AB 500. They are designed to attach to the armor’s PALS webbing via a split bar side release buckle. Examples we saw at OR and AUSA were in UCP and Coyote. You should expect to see these hit shelves right after SHOT Show.

Camelbak Moves to 500D

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Camelbak is switching their entire line to 500D Cordura from 1000D. This is a great move and will lighten the load with only a negligible compromise in durability. Not only that, but the 500D fabrics look “softer”. Unfortunately, some customers don’t get it and think that moving to 500D means a much lower level of durability. This isn’t the case at all. Equipment doesn’t all need to be manufactured from multiple layers of 1000D Cordura.

OR – Day 2

Lots more cool stuff…

Camelbak
Camelbak has developed three new carriers that are low profile and designed to attach to the back of body armor via their proprietary Direct Armor Attachment System. They have also developed the Racebak which is the fusion of a performance sleeveless t-shirt and a bladder system. It goes back to Camelbak’s roots, bike racing but I have a feeling that we will be seeing the Racebak adopted by military guys and adapted to a number of uses.

Outdoor Research
OR will be releasing three new gloves in the fall. All three are manufactured offshore but designed specifically for the military retail market. This means the price point will be much lower than their issue gloves.
The gloves are:
Pile Driver – Hard knuckle
Flash Point – Minimalist FR
Storm Cell – Tight fit, Gore-tex insert lining

Fisher Space Pens
They expect to release a flat tan version of the bullet pen soon.

Lowa Boots
The Desert Elite boot that has been exclusive to the UK Task Force line will be available in the US this fall.
