Sneak Peek – MagPod

Monday, April 18th, 2016

Here’s a Sneak peek of the patent pending M3 PMAG version of MagPod; even though the M3 PMAG baseplate slides on from the rear, they decided to make their version slide in from the FRONT, which allows them to keep the patented “forward biased” foot that MagPod is known for.

No firm release date yet – they are still evaluating the retaining clip options (one-piece vs two-piece) to see which holds up better to drop testing.

Back in May, we offered a brief sneak peak of a production model MagPod. We’re happy to say that they’re now very close to being commercially available. Aside from frequent updates on the official MagPod Facebook page, with one comment hinting at a late November commercial release, they’ve also been sending out promotional MagPods taken from the production stock, a few of which we’ve received ourselves.

As a reminder, the MagPod is a replacement floor plate for Magpul MOE Gen2 Pmags which turns the magazine into an effective monopod, easily capable of balancing a fully-loaded carbine. It also functions quite well as a grip when grabbing a mag from its pouch.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

I’ve been a longtime fan of the MagPod which is an aftermarket floor plate modification for the Magpul M2 magazine. Once installed it transforms your magazine into a very effective monopod. In fact, it works so well that you can use it to stand your carbine on the magazine. Additionally, it offers an excellent grip to grab the mag from its pouch. The MagPod I have is a couple of generations old and changes have been focused on manufacturability rather than function.

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

In an announcement on the MagPod Facebook page, it was revealed that they will delay the release of the product at least until October as they still need to finalize material selection and also plan on at least one more round of refinements to the design along with associated product testing.
