Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

Full Featured, Spring Weight EDC Jacket Built in the USA

This Spring PDW releases their first outerwear style, the Solo Jacket 100C. This everyday wear jacket has its design DNA in American work wear and Aviation styles. Made from a 10 ounce 100% cotton canvas with a DWR finish, the material is rugged and durable while not a burden to wear.

Think of the classic trucker jacket meets rogue ship captain and you get the Solo Jacket. 9 pockets, admin organizer, industrial grade construction, reinforced stress points and other details round this jacket’s build. The cut and silhouette easily accommodates a mid-layer and the flight jacket type bi-swing back allows for freedom of movement while piloting your Series III 109, adventure bike, or YT-1300. The Solo Jacket 100C is designed and sewn in California USA.

The PDW Solo Jacket 100C is available in S.L. Black and is a part of their Built in USA CORE-Line of products by Prometheus Design Werx.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“We designed this jacket to be a practical and functional style that could be worn almost everyday. It pairs great with your favorite pair of jeans, adventure pants, khakis, even shorts. We looked to our favorite vintage work wear styles to flight jackets from the 1960s and took some of those design cues to create the Solo. We wanted a style that made sense while behind the wheel of your overlanding rig, worn around the weekend cabin, to single prop bush plane or just everyday. The jacket needed to have all the pockets to load up on your EDC items, be comfortable, breathe, and possess a good balance of weight vs durability. The end result also reminded us of a jacket worn by one our favorite rogue, ship captains, and from that, inspired the style name. The 3-slot admin pocket for writing implements and penlight we put on the left sleeve is handy in any vehicle. Our chest and sleeve pockets are sized to fit most modern day smart phones, extra seams and panels shape this jacket into a more tailored fit and feel. We work with American garment factories that have decades of experience. Typically with most of our products styles, the single highest cost component in our American sewn and made goods, is the labor.”

A modern regular fit for comfort and freedom of movement. Layer over your favorite waffle thermal, use as a light jacket around the campsite when things chill down in the evenings. The wool Melton used in the making of this modern classic is tried and true. No melt-no drip, insulates when wet, quiet and wears year after year. The chest pockets are sized to fit most non-plus sized smart phones and has one pen-pencil slot for when you use this shirt in the workshop. Double reinforced elbows keeps the typical wear points more durable, a touch borrowed from vintage US Navy type work shirts of a different era, and single arm-side panel construction allow for freedom of arm movement unlike other button up shirts being made today. The DRB Woodsman Shirt is equally at home in the wilderness, at the workshop, or inside the cabin of your favorite overlanding rig. Prometheus Design Werx – O.R.66 Jacket

O.R.66 Jacket
Timeless Design, American Horween Horsehide, Made in the USA

Prometheus Design Werx introduces their O.R.66 Jacket. Expertly handmade in San Francisco, with American Horween Horsehide, this timeless everyday jacket style has been worn by rogues, scholars, pilots, motorcyclists, cops & robbers alike since the 1930s. Long before technical synthetics, leather and horsehide in particular, was the material of choice for rugged outerwear. Considered the most durable and desirable of all leather hides, the O.R.66 in horsehide is an acquisition that is intended to last your lifetime and passed down to your children. Designed and made in California, USA.

The O.R.66 Jacket is a part of their Made in USA CORE-Line of products by Prometheus Design Werx.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“Some of the PDW Team has been riding for over 30 years. We know very well the value of a leather jacket that you can rely on. Our objective here was to create that one goto leather jacket in your wardrobe.

The 1930s was the “Golden Age of Aviation”, the end of Prohibition, the era of Streamline Moderne, the Great Depression, Big Band and Jazz, the Yankees ruled baseball, and the beginning of WWII. There was value and common sense in well made, durable consumer products and goods. It was during this decade the “Half Belt” style leather jacket was born. A design that is sleek, minimalist and stripped of any superfluous ornament. To create the O.R.66 Jacket, we started with three authentic period examples of this style jacket from the 30s, 40s and 50s, and created our master pattern. Our select American Horween Horsehide is in a very special 2.75oz hide weight, and the tanning method chosen produces a jacket equally at home around town, on a motorcycle, or in a cockpit. The O.R.66 is superior in tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and durability to any cow and steer hide jackets in heavier weight classes. The O.R.66 will break in with use and display its characteristics as unique as the individual who wears it.

Without changing the defining design characteristics and silhouette, we updated this timeless style with a few subtle functional updates. Period USN G1 style wind flap and gusseted bi-swing back were added for those of us who ride, there are 2 leather lined interior Napoleon pockets taken from custom leather jackets made for Federal Agents that can withstand holding backup pieces, a zippered “hide-away” pocket in the back of the collar for a spare cuff key to bug out cash, and a rich, deep red nylon sateen lining popular with riding jackets from the days of Rockers and the legendary Ace Cafe.”

The PDW O.R.66 Jacket will be available on Wednesday, Dec 14, 2016 at 1:00pm PST via their website,

It is naturally insulating even when wet, quiet, and no melt no drip. The overall cut and single side arm panels allows a great range and freedom of movement uncommon in wool style outdoor shirts. Double reinforced elbows, generous collar stands up to block wind, and the no-loss slotted parasmock style PDW buttons round out the Wilderness Utility Top. This is a PDW shirt that you can likely pass down to your grandkids. We’re going to wear the hell out of this top.”

Prometheus Design Werx – Carry-all-Bag

Made of rugged 1000D Cordura nylon, and constructed with full wrap webbing for extra strength, this simple yet highly versatile tote bag will tackle any random loads that you can fit inside it. PDW encourages users to stop using the plastic throw-away bags and get onboard with the re-usable CaB-2 for your daily carry needs. Featuring short and long carry straps, 4 organizer pockets, it also perfectly nests the American paper grocery bag. Designed and made in USA.

The Carry-All-Bag-2 is a part of their Made in USA CORE-Line of products by Prometheus Design Werx, and will be available in Black, OD Green, Coyote Brown and Wolf Gray.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“We wanted to create something very straightforward, durable, yet simple to use on a daily basis to haul those random loads when running out the door, a trip to the store, or heading out into the back country. It carries a load of firewood that is just about the perfect average weight that just about any adult can manage and on those raining stormy days that destroys the paper grocery bag, they’ll just slip right inside the CaB-2 and get your groceries safely home. Our families have used them for picking apples, tossing in supplies for a spontaneous picnic, trips to the beach, rock climbing gear, last minute camping to overlanding supplies, as a central brass collection point and even as an impromptu ice bucket to keep drinks cold. This bag’s strength is in their simplicity and broad spectrum of use. Made wit the classic proven 1000D Cordura means season after season of use. We always keep a few extra in our 4x4s and on the coat rack by the door.”

The PDW CAB-2 will be available for purchase on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2016 at 1:00pm PST via their website,

Prometheus Design Werx – Technical Picnic Blanket

Wednesday, November 16th, 2016

I love picnics and I love blankets. Although the new T.P.B. From PDW, is called a picnic blanket, and I might use it as such, it’s so much more, and I’m looking forward to ordering one just as soon as they are up.

A Multi-Purpose Wool Lined SilNylon Ground Sheet and Wilderness Throw, Made in the USA

San Francisco based specialty outdoor products brand Prometheus Design Werx releases their packable, multi-purpose T.P.B. (Technical “Picnic” Blanket) designed to be used in a variety of roles, from an insulated ground sheet, weatherproof wilderness throw, picnic blanket, to stadium blanket. The lightweight yet durable nylon ripstop ground liner is impregnated with silicone to repel water and also coated with PU for extra protection against the elements. The T.P.B. is inspired by the classic “cowboy bedroll,” but PDW’s take is updated with modern, lighter, technical materials with the silnylon, tried and true wool Melton, and yet this 54” x 84” back country throw rolls up into the included small stuff sack to easily stash in your pack. Designed and made in USA.

The T.P.B. is part of the Made in USA CORE-Line of products by Prometheus Design Werx, and will be available in Charcoal Gray wool Melton with dark OD Green silnylon.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“We came up with the product name of ‘Technical Picnic Blanket’ with a bit of a chuckle. As serious as a piece of backcountry gear this is, it certainly can be casually used as a picnic blanket but will kick the pants off of those crappy plasticky jobs you see being offered at big box stores. We really felt there was something missing from our gear line up and this product really fills that niche. We’ve used it hiking, backpacking, overlanding, the beach, watching fireworks and meteor showers, and lining the floor of our tent when snow camping. The seasoned outdoorsman knows that wool insulates even when wet and we’ve found that the weight of the wool Melton we selected to be a great balance between packed trail weight and all season use. This best made product uses custom milled lightweight but durable 30D nylon ripstop that has been impregnated with silicone for the hydrophobic properties and also lined it with PU for even more protection from the elements. The 14 oz wool Melton is sourced from a US supplier that has been in operation since 1922. It’s surprisingly soft to the touch and uses 15% nylon fibers to add that extra touch of durability to the 85% wool content. There are 6 staking points to secure it to the ground and the entire 54” x 84” foot print rolls up into its 6.5” x 11” stuff sack to easily stow into just about any pack. We also always keep an extra one in the 4×4 for just in case.”

The PDW CAB-2 will be available for purchase on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2016 at 1:00pm PST via their website,
