Slumberjack Introduces Proprietary DST Camo Pattern For New 2017 Fall Outerwear Line

Sunday, January 1st, 2017

Leading with their Perception color, SJK’s DST camouflage apparel provides cutting-edge concealment and performance

Gunbarrel, Colo. (For Release on January 1, 2017) – Slumberjack (SJK), known for hunting, camping, and overland gear, is further cementing their leadership role in the hunting market with the launch of their proprietary DST (Disruptive Shadow Technology) camouflage. This cutting-edge camo pattern will be introduced on their first ever, new for fall 2017 apparel line.

Inspired by the shadows and negative spaces of natural foliage, Slumberjack’s DST blends sharp outlines with blurred, shadow-like shapes to effectively disrupt the human form at long range or in close quarters. By creating an illusion through depth of field and color adaptation, hunters will blend in with varied terrain for ultimate concealment.

SJK will debut the new DST Perception pattern on their highly anticipated, new for fall hunting apparel at the 2017 SHOT Show.

“As an artist and designer I’ve always been intrigued by camouflage design. Even before my time in the Army I had started collecting various camouflage patterns from all over the world. Working for SJK, I was excited to get an opportunity to create a camouflage pattern of my own design from the ground up,” says Vince Mares, SJK design manager. “After an extensive exploration of various graphic-based patterns, I found that nature itself had the best solution with its shapes, colors and shadows. What I extracted from nature is not only effective but has great aesthetics. I am really proud of what we now call the Perception DST camouflage pattern and I am excited to use it on my next hunt.”

The new fall 2017 apparel line consists of four core pieces; a rain jacket and pants and a DriDown and synthetic jacket. Fully-featured and equipped with Perception DST camouflage, each piece is made with “quiet touch” fabrics and DWR finishes to keep hunters undetectable and dry in the field. Built to be packable, SJK’s apparel line fits easily into day or overnight packs.

For hunts where the forecast calls for rain, snow, or both, SJK offers the Windage jacket (MSRP $179.95) and pants (MSRP $149.95). A 3-layer waterproof / breathable laminate sheds rain and melting snow while allowing internal moisture to escape. Articulation in the elbows, knees and crotch provide outstanding mobility while PU coated #7 zippers keep wind and rain out. A relaxed, athletic cut is designed for comfort and layering in colder weather.

For cold weather hunts where weight and packability are crucial, the Incog (MSRP $139.95) down jacket is the perfect choice. Insulated with 600 fill-power DriDown insulation (ordinary down treated with a hydrophobic finish) in the body for enhanced performance in damp conditions and synthetic insulation in the shoulders for durability while wearing a pack, the Incog packs and layers easily while providing outstanding warm on the hunt.

Synthetic insulation is the way to go as they are impervious to wet weather, the Grit (MSRP $99.95) jacket is stuffed with 60 grams / square meter of SJK’s SlumberLoft-PRO synthetic insulation. Packable, warm, and ready to take the edge off cold days in the field, the Grit is made to take abuse and come back for more.

ORSM – Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp

Friday, August 5th, 2016

One of Sumberjack’s new priducts for OR Summer Market is so big, they couldn’t actually set it up in the booth but rather had to rely on a large billboard along the side of their booth. The Roadhouse Tarp was designed to be used in conjunction with a vehicle for overland camping use.

The Roadhouse Tarp will come with two beefy steel poles and can be set up alone lean-to or ridge tent-styles or connected off the back of a vehicle with two poles for a wider top or single pole for a more pronounced ridge.  It is equipped with a ratchet attachment system to connect to various points on the vehicle included the wheel.  I know one of you will say it, so I’ll save you the embarrassment; no, it’s not meant to be driven with the tarp attached to a wheel.

Coming Spring 2017.

Post SHOT Show Wrapup – Slumberjack

Friday, January 29th, 2016

We previewed the Pursuit Vest during last year’s Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. It will be hitting the streets this year.

Although it only comes in one size, it has quite a bit of adjustment. The Pursuit is designed for use while hunting or fishing but would make a great utility best thanks to its four chest pockets and 70 oz hydration bladder capable rear pocket. There are also PALS fields for additional gear.

The Wild-Her is Slumberjack’s first pack designed specifically for the ladies.

You may notice the offset waist belt adjustment that keeps the buckle off of the belly button for comfort. This is just one component of their new, contoured hip belt built with the shape of women’s waists in mind. This 33L internal frame pack accommodates trophies as well as weapons and features six external pockets.

Both items are offered in Kryptek Highlander.

SJK Hunting partners With Outback Outdoors To Test And Evaluate For Fall 2014 Hunting Gear

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

With over 80 years of combined hunting experience, Outback Outdoors contributes extensively to the SJK Hunting design process.

BOULDER, COLO. – SJK Hunting (formerly Slumberjack), manufacturers of outdoor gear since 1957, is partnering with Outback Outdoors to test, evaluate, and provide feedback for a brand new line of hunting gear, launching for fall 2014. With decades of experience and hundreds of successful hunts, Outback Outdoors brings a priceless amount of knowledge to the SJK Hunting product design and development process.

Providing real world testing and feedback, Outback Outdoors helps SJK Hunting hone designs and vet features to create the most cutting edge hunting gear available. A collective of highly skilled and experienced hunters who spend much of the year creating video of their hunts for a regular segment on the Sportsman Channel, Outback Outdoors is an ideal partner for this collaboration.

“We’ve been making outdoor gear for over 50 years so when we set out to create a line of dedicated hunting gear, we already knew what works well for backpacking and camping,” said Russell Rowel, Vice President of SJK Hunting. “Since hunters have very specific gear needs, we wanted to get as much input as possible from highly experienced backcountry hunters. That’s why we partnered with Outback Outdoors. They have the knowledge, experience, and passion to help us create some of the most functional hunting gear on the market.”

Outback Outdoors is a team of three experienced hunters and outdoorsmen, including Trevon Stoltzfus, Adam Wells, and Dave Beronio. Blending a passion for the hunt with a desire to bring a fresh perspective to the world of hunting videos, this team of hunting industry professionals spends hundreds of days each season hunting, filming, and now working with SJK Hunting’s new line of hunting gear.

SJK Hunting’s new for 2014 line incorporates proven hunting features and functionality into every product. Lightweight materials, durable construction, cutting edge Kryptek camouflage, and an extensive amount of input from the highly experienced team at Outback Outdoors combine to create some of the most cutting edge backpacks, treestand bags, and accessories available.

SJK Hunting launched their first ever line of hunting specific backpacks, treestand bags, and accessories at the annual SHOT Trade Show in Salt Lake City on January 14, 2014. Retail availability is scheduled for summer 2014.

Slumberjack – Thermal Cloak First Impressions

Friday, March 28th, 2014

Slumberjack revealed their SJK Tactical Hunting Gear line during SHOT 2014. The line includes packs, insulated tree stand bags, and tents, all made from durable, lightweight materials in Kryptek camouflage.

Thermal 1

We recently got a hold of a product in the upcoming line, the SJK Tactical Thermal Cloak. The Thermal Cloak is designed to offer protection from the elements as well as act as a personal blind. Tactical hood styling allows the wearer to maintain peripheral vision and hearing. The fabrics used are waterproof and seam taped to repel wind, rain, and snow, while 160g of synthetic insulation keeps the wearer warm. The bottom of the cloak is open to allow the wearer to feel the edges of their tree stand to ensure proper footing. The cloak can also be cinched up around the wearer’s knees for increased mobility. The arm ports are self-sealing (via magnets) that allow for the wearer to move into a firing position. The front zipper and hand warmer pocket help regulate temperature.

SONY DSC

The 160g of insulation cloak keeps the wearer warm, and the fleece around the collar area is a nice touch that adds a bit more comfort to the cloak.

The arm ports are spacious, and secure using magnets. This is a nice feature for when trying to stay quiet, although the position of the magnets does leave a bit of open spacing for cold to get in. There are also front-side handwarming pockets to help regulate temperature.

The hood features a rear elastic retention band for adjustment. This is a nice feature as it allows the user to tailor the hood to the size they require, so as to maintain peripheral vision and for comfort.

The bottom of the cloak features split sides that secure with magnets like the arm ports. They quickly and quietly separate when mobile, and snap back together when stationary. There are also cinches with loops to raise the bottom of the cloak to knee level if additional mobility is required.

Thermal 6

The Thermal Cloak utilizes a front side zipper. This is also supported by magnets like the arm ports, so that the user can quietly secure the front opening without manipulating the zipper, and/or maintain ventilation when wearing the cloak.

Thermal 12

The Thermal Cloak also comes with its own stuff sack.

Functionality wise, the Thermal Cloak fulfills its purpose well. It keeps its wearer warm, and is designed to operate as quietly as possible, as expected from a product meant for use when hunting.

Expect to see the SJK Tactical Hunting Gear line available later this year.
