Triple Aught Design To Open Outpost In Boulder

Thursday, September 7th, 2017

Triple Aught Design has been kicking around the idea of setting up shops, referred to as outposts, in regions outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Although I figured their first one would be in New York City, they’ve set their eye on Boulder, Colorado, with an opening date of 1 October. At least it will be a shorter commute for Phil.

Triple Aught Design – Mercury Tech-T

Sunday, June 18th, 2017

Designed to augment and enhance your body’s natural cooling mechanisms, Triple Aught Design’s Mercury Tech-T is designed specifically for performance and comfort for hot conditions.

While natural materials such as cotton excel at trapping moisture against your skin to keep you cool, they can cling to your skin and chafe. Mercury features Polartec® Delta™, a highly engineered 3D mesh that optimizes moisture dispersal and airflow while reducing friction against your skin.

Delta captures and retains moisture in pockets, while remaining cling-free. The specialized knit construction uses both hydrophilic and hydrophobic yarns to enhance convective heat loss, remain breathable, and regulate drying time.

TAD advises that because the Mercury Tech-T cools so well, it shouldn’t be used as a baselayer in cold weather.

Available in Black and Gunship.

Triple Aught Design – Spectre 34 Pack

Saturday, June 3rd, 2017

The Spectre 34’s scalable, lightweight design includes customizable 7075 aluminum stays and HDPE frame sheet, adjustable harness system including removable waistbelt, and expandable capacity.

A 3-row, 4-column PALS grid on the face supports the Spectre compression system and accessory pouches, such as the OP1, GPP1 and GPP2. A low-profile daisy chain along the periphery of the bag provides attachment points for S1/S2 pouches, radios, and other accessories.

Internal mounting points within the main compartment support a range of accessories such as Control Panels for further customization.

Isolated side compartments, easily accessed via dedicated full-length zippers and separated from the main compartment by durable and water-resistant ripstop panels, feature hanging loops, covered exit ports, and externally routed drain holes. Ideal for hydration systems, isolating wet or dirty gear, or for keeping extra layers and small items readily accessible.

The Spectre Transporter Tail, hydration pack systems, and other accessories can attach to either the concealed, integrated attachment points at the crown or to the daisy chain for externally configurable storage.

Similar attachment points inside the side pockets allow for management of ice tools and other gear along the sides of the pack via the zippered port on the bottom.

A modular compression system controls the load in the main compartment, or can be positioned across the pack to carry larger items, such as snowshoes or antler shed.

Polartec Introduces Polartec Power Fill

Thursday, June 1st, 2017

(Andover, Mass.) – May 30, 2017 – Polartec® LLC, the premium provider of innovative textile solutions, announces the upcoming launch of Polartec® Power Fill™. The fabric technology is a best-in-class fill insulation that rounds out the company’s range of temperature-regulating performance fabrics.

Polartec® Power Fill™ is a soft and pliable matrix of spun polyester yarns engineered with a proprietary hollow fiber construction that is softer and more durable, forming thousands of air pockets that continuously capture and contain body heat, while maintaining a resilient, equalized thermal layer between the colder air on the outside and the warmer temperatures on the inside.

A unique controlled melt process bonds the hollow fibers, increasing durability and drapability, eliminating the need for scrims or other stabilizers. This gives Power Fill™ unmatched warmth and design versatility for a wide range of styles and usage occasions. The polyester fiber’s inherent hydrophobic properties also work to ensure that Polartec® Power Fill™ resists moisture absorption and dries quickly, while maintaining a high warmth to weight ratio.

Made with industry-leading, cruelty-free, 80% post-consumer recycled content, Power Fill™ insulation technology provides greater warmth retention in colder conditions, without added weight or bulk.

“We’re proud to deliver an insulation technology to our customers that enables the design of better products with Polartec premium quality,” says Polartec CEO Gary Smith. “Polartec created the category of active insulation with our industry leading range of Alpha™ temperature regulating product offerings, and now Power Fill™ continues with innovative fill solutions for the coldest conditions.”

Polartec® Power Fill™ is being shown to customers now in 60, 80, 100 and 135 g/m2 weights, and will first become available to consumers in Fall 2017 product from Polartec customer Triple Aught Design.

Triple Aught Design Brings Back The Shag Master Blanket

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017

Years ago, I bought a cool fleece blanket from Triple Aught Design. Unfortunately, they only made a short run of the Shag Master Blanket, that one time. I’ve been after them for years to make more and now they’ve made it happen. I’m not taking credit for this production run of this cozy blanket, made from Polartec® Thermal Pro® High Loft, and takes it’s name from their fuzzy hoodie, but it sure put a smile on my face. It’s 78″ x 54″ making it quite a bit longer than the original.

Be advised, this is a pre-order, but they are offered in three colors, Black, Eclipse and Phantom. Orders begin shipping May 29th.
