Triple Aught Design Brings Back The Shag Master Blanket

Tuesday, May 9th, 2017

Years ago, I bought a cool fleece blanket from Triple Aught Design. Unfortunately, they only made a short run of the Shag Master Blanket, that one time. I’ve been after them for years to make more and now they’ve made it happen. I’m not taking credit for this production run of this cozy blanket, made from Polartec® Thermal Pro® High Loft, and takes it’s name from their fuzzy hoodie, but it sure put a smile on my face. It’s 78″ x 54″ making it quite a bit longer than the original.

Be advised, this is a pre-order, but they are offered in three colors, Black, Eclipse and Phantom. Orders begin shipping May 29th.

Triple Aught Design – Sentinel Field Jacket

Friday, December 16th, 2016

The Sentinel is Triple Aught Design’s modern take on the classic field jacket but I see it as more in class with traditional English driving coats as they’ve inset the chest pockets.

It’s a straight forward outer shell but with hidden internal carriage features. Internal and external chest pockets offer both security and accessibility, while classic flap-over front pockets also feature zippered hand pockets for convenient protection against the elements.

The Sentinel Field Jacket is made from Ventile which is both breathable and weather-resistant.

Features:
-Two Large Front Pockets with Flap Closure
-Two Front Hand Pockets with Weather-Resistant Zippers
-One Exterior Chest Pocket with Weather-Resistant Zipper
-One Interior Chest Pocket with Weather-Resistant Zipper
-Adjustable Cuffs and Locking Waist Cinch

Triple Aught Design – Protocol Jacket

Thursday, December 15th, 2016

I am super excited about this launch. First off, it’s on a Thursday rather than the normal Friday launch day for Triple Aught Design. Second, it’s a blazer. The team at TAD hinted at this when I was out there in September, but I had no idea it would be this nice. Based on the photos, I think the Protocol will be great for those of you looking for a travel blazer. Now I know I just got a new blazer form another company, but a fella can have two, right? Maybe Mrs SSD will read this and get me one for Christmas.

Having a tailor isn’t quite the mark of a gentleman that it used to be, but a great fitting blazer still is.

Made from Ventile, it is unlined and incorporates both a bi-swing back as well as a single vent amking itba great warm weather jacket. Additionally, TAD has finished the Protocol with their signature taped buttons, functional cuffs, and double welted, tuckable pocket flaps. This is a sporty looking coat.

Ventile, originally designed in the UK, is densely woven from 100% cotton using the world’s finest long staple fibre. Its secret lies in the uncoated and non-laminated construction. The performance of Ventile® fabrics results from the properties of cotton fibres which expand in a uniform manner when they come into contact with water. This allows the interstices within the fabric to close up, preventing the further passage of water. In addition to this, Ventile is impregnated with a high quality DWR system which enhances the fabrics water resistant properties and increases performance. The fabric therefore provides excellent protection against the wind, rain, snow and cold, and a unique level of comfort that is highly breathable, very durable and quiet.

Features:
-Bi-swing back and single vent for enhanced mobility
-TAD signature slotted buttons at front and functional cuff closures
-Double welted front pockets with tuckable pocket flaps
-Single ticket pocket and dual internal welted pockets
-Field repair buttons included inside

Triple Aught Design – Azimuth Transport Pack Now Available For Pre-Order

Friday, December 2nd, 2016

I was first exposed to the Azimuth Transport Pack from Triple Aught Design during Destination: Granite. TAD gave each of the attendees a prototype of this lightweight daypack. I used it during the experience and now keep it with me for travel. As you’ll notice, it compacts into an internal pocket for storage or transport. The idea is that you can take it with you in your main luggage and then pull it out and use it as a daypack once you get to your destination. It weighs .8 lbs and offers 19 liters of carrying capacity.  I really like the top zipper opening which secures via two side release buckles. The pack also offers a handy side zip for panel access as well as dual water bottle pockets.  However, the real exciting thing about this pack is that it is super durable thanks to the VX-21 Ripstop and VX-07 Shell materials which are essentially modern sail cloth.

Features:
Easy Access: Primarily loaded via the large, water resistant zipper at the top of the pack, the Azimuth Pack also has zippers running along both sides of the front panel. One zipper leads to the main compartment, allowing the user to quickly and easily access items at any layer of the pack, and the other zipper leads to a separate, flat storage compartment that keeps small items readily accessible.

Internal Organization: Two Helix (HX) attachment points inside of the Azimuth Pack allow the user to attach Transport Cubes, our soon-to-be-released Transport Sleeve, select Control Panels, or any other compatible storage system securely inside the pack. An internal mesh pocket keeps small items accessible at the top of the pack, and also acts as the carrying pouch when stowing the Azimuth for transport.

External Organization: The Azimuth Pack has two quickly accessible external side pockets with attachment loops to help retain essential tools such as a water bottle, compass, GPS, or map. These pockets are ported to allow small debris or loose liquid to escape.

Capable Companion: Unstructured and minimalist, the Azimuth can be packed into its own internal mesh pocket, rolled up, or packed flat. Made in the USA from premium lightweight and durable weather-resistant materials, the Azimuth packs features above its weight class into a package you’ll forget is there until you need it.

Hydration Compatible: A hydration bladder attachment strap rests inside the top of the Azimuth Pack to allow common sizes and shapes of hydrations bladders to be suspended. The top of the pack is ported to allow hydration hoses to be routed to either shoulder strap. Both straps contain a small elastic loop to secure the hose to the strap.

Colors are Black/Brindle. Pre-orders for the pilot production run will begin shipping on Wednesday, 12/7. All pre-orders will ship in time to arrive by 12/24. Not available for pickup in-store. However, there will be a limited number available at the annual prototype/sample/warehouse sale happening this weekend at their Dogpatch location. On a side note, this year TAD will be doing an online sale for the customers who can’t make it here for the sale. Online info: tripleaughtdesign.com/dogpatch-warehouse-sale

Sneak Peek – Triple Aught Design Azimuth Pack

Monday, November 28th, 2016

Well, apparently we can talk about this. I’ve been sworn to secrecy on this new daypack from Triple Aught Design since receiving one during Destination: Granite back in September.

The super lightweight Azimuth is unlike any previous packs from Triple Aught Design. Sounds like it will be released very soon.

They’ve another video with even more info.

Triple Aught Design – Gemini Shirt

Friday, November 18th, 2016

When I saw a prototype of the new Triple Aught Design Gemini Shirt during a recent visit to their design facility in San Francisco’s Dogpatch, I knew it was something I would want to share with my readers once it came out. The design is subtle, yet functional. The shirt doesn’t quite look like anything else out there and is made from a technical fabric. TAD also does a great job of building a few surprises into the garment.

Again, it seems to be a bit of a retro design, inspired by the clothing worn by those involved in our early space program. I love seeing classic designs updated with more modern fabrics and construction techniques.

Features:
Performance on Demand: Built to excel across multiple environments, the Gemini Shirt is crafted from a technical blend of cotton and polyester. Resisting wrinkles and stains, this material drapes cleanly and helps conceal carried items. Lightweight, packable, and easy to care for, the Gemini Shirt is ideal for long term assignments.

Subtle Details: Two clean welt pockets on the chest and a hidden envelope pocket are perfect for small E&E items. The buttons are safely secured along bartacked webbing and include a slotted button that rotates onto the webbing for quick field repair.

The Gemini Shirt is offered in three colors: Siege, Gunmetal, Black and sizes XS – 3XL. The shirt features a standard fit and is Made in USA!

The price is very nice, at $80.
