Colt Super-Stoc

Designed by Bill Rogers, the new Colt Super-Stoc will be available later this month on select AR and M4 rifles. Weighing in at 6.56 ounces it is the third generation of the Super-Stoc. It features a unique Cam-Lock system that locks onto the buffer tube like a solid stock. The Cam-Lock lever is reversible, enabling the shooter to customize the stock. The Super-Stoc also includes a removable recoil pad, sling loop, quick detach swivel sling mount.

In a press release, Bill Rogers, chief shooting instructor of the Rogers Shooting School said, ““The Colt Super-Stoc is one of the lightest, strongest and most secure collapsible stocks for the M4/AR series of weapons. Our partnership with Colt was a no-brainer. We want the highest quality rifle in the world to be outfitted with the world’s newest and most technologically advanced stocks available.”

Granted, perusing forums for weapons failure points is not my hobby, but so many new stocks are claiming “strong” and “secure” as selling points like they’ve finally solved the plague. I’ve never even heard of a collapsible stock as a weak point in the system.

Why can’t all these new stocks just get off on trying to be cool or aesthetically pleasing? Few actually change much besides the look.

Manufacturers sell these stocks under the premise that a loose/jiggly buttstock can affect shot placement.

I know there are only a few ways to skin a cat, but the design inspiration of this stock is clear. And on the surface it appears to offer the exact same function in a slightly modified form factor. So I have to ask, what’s the point? No dis-respect to Bill Rogers, I just don’t see what he did here that is a product improvement on the MOE or more specifically the CTR stock.

I may be out on a limb, but it seems to me, that this may be an attempt by Colt to offer an “upgraded” rifle similar to the MOE editions offered by other manufacturers, without being on the MOE bandwagon. Essentially, “hey we have a plain carbine with some upgraded features too, but ours are different (but the same)” Am I off base with this analysis?

The one advantage this buttstock has over the Magpul CTR is that it is adjustable to fit tight over either type of receiver extension (MIL Spec or Commercial). It is also lighter than even the MOE.

I belive the Mr. Rogers came out with the Super-Stoc by himself originally and only recently partnered with Colt, probably to try and get more sales. Giving Colt a way to sell an “upgraded” stock without using Magpul stuff may be their reasoning for it.

wow… at a glance, I thought it was some new Magpul stock.
