AUSA 19 – LMD Pistol Enhancer For Glock

LaserMaxDefense manufactures the Pistol Aiming Laser (PAiL) for the US Army’s Modular Handgun System.

The switches are designed to be operated while wearing gloves and both the white light and IR illuminator (while using gen III Night Vision Devices) are designed to provide positive weapons ID at 40m.

Capabilities:

WHITE LIGHT: 175 lumens (typical) of white light
IR ILLUMINATOR: 175 mW (typical) of 850nm illumination
IR LASER: 850nm 0.7 mW max (class1) eye safe aiming laser

Length: < 2.8″
Height: < 1.4″ (not below trigger guard)
Width: < 1.5″
Weight: 2.6 ounces with battery

The Pistol Enhancer offers two hours of continuous use with a single CR-123 battery, which can be changed without removing the device from the weapon.

LMD took a look at the market and decided to create a version for use with the Glock. Because the trigger guard of the MHS is so large, they had to make a new version, with a different housing. Functionality of this prototype is the same as the original model, but experimentation has shown that it will fit a wider variety of pistols.

A bare minimum amount of light still? El oh el

  2. Chuck Mac says:

Agreed on the low white light. Kind of weak. Silly question , but don’t MHS rail hanging stuff also fit on Glock, too ? I know some companies make rail keys to adapt to frame. Can I not make one LMD fit the other, etc and so on ?

    • SSD says:

The trigger guard on MHS is very large, as it says in the article. This means that there’s an inset to bring the switches back to the finger. If it was placed on a Glock, the switches would obstruct the trigger area.

    >WHITE LIGHT: 175 lumens

kek, is there a zero missing?

  4. Hodge175 says:

From what I read this solicitation was more for the IR spectrum and not the visible spectrum, hence why the white light output is so low.

  5. Wraith says:

Doesn’t the surefire XVL2 already outclass this in all outputs( ie. 400lumens, 300mw IR illuminator and 3mw IR laser class 3b) ?I’m surprised that they’re going for a weaker civilian type output unit.

    • DangerMouse says:

3mw is total overkill at 40m, or even longer.

Civi class-1 is gives a finer aiming point with less bloom.

  6. Philip says:

175 lumens? What is this, 1998?

  7. EODMadBomb says:

I think 175 lumens is fine for most handgun distance engagements, but today’s market wants more.

The PAiL hasn’t exactly taken the market by storm, but they did get the Military nod. That means at least one holster will be made for the weapon/light combo.

I haven’t seen any molds available for the civillian holster making market, and probably won’t unless they make it fit way more than 2 handguns.

    • Cool Arrow Kicker says:

The PAiL was an “interim buy” to help “refine the requirement” which is total BS because 20,000 units isn’t an “interim buy”.

  8. Joe says:

I couldn’t find any official info of that light to be the US ARMY choice?
Where does that info comes from???

  9. Willis Bee says:

So what you are saying is you need 2 different models to be put on Glock or Sig and you have 175 lumens of white light. Where is the US Army press release on this being program item ?
