Program Manager Soldier Lethality Reorganizes

During this week’s Future Force Capabilities Conference presented by the National Defense Industrial Association in Austin, Texas, Program Manager Soldier Lethality COL Scott Madore briefed the audience on changes to his PM’s structure.

The structure of PEO Soldier has undergone several changes over the past few years and part of Reorg Phase III was to stand up PM Small Arms Fire Control (SAFC). SAFC is responsible for Family of Weapon Sights, Small Tactical Optical Rifle Mounted (STORM) sights, and the XM157 Next Gen Squad Weapon Fire Control (NGSW-FC).

Transitioning several program from PM Soldier Sensors and Lasers, PM SAFC will continue operations at Ft Belvoir, VA and NGSW-FC will remain at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ.

With the addition of PM SAFC, PM-SL is now has responsibility for the full life cycle of small arms, including enablers.

The decision to break the optics and enablers out in to a separate product shop makes zero sense. Do you even program manage bro?

    • SSD says:

You don’t seem to understand. They were under a totally different PM. Read the article.

      • Mike Honcho says:

SSD, oh I understand. I read the article bro. There was no need to create a separate PdM SAFC. Optics and enablers should be aligned with the platform. For example: NG fire control stays with NGSW, FWS-Sniper goes to IW and FWS-CS goes to CSW.

For some reason, you don’t seem to comprehend that weapon optics were under PM SSL before, which is completely separate from PM SL. Now, they are under the same O6 leadership.
Your plan would end up forcing redundancies.

        • Darren T says:

Not when optics etc are used on multiple platforms. When that is the case, modularity, then you must have a separate O3/O4 APM. They are all in the same building anyways FYI. They sit 20 feet apart. And at the O5 level, there is an integrator who ensures that all APMs integrate their products with other related products.

You don’t get it and obviously don’t PM bro. Clearly they came from a different O6 shop. Duh! The products should have gone to the ALREADY ESTABLISHED O5 shops within PM SL. Read my comment again bro. Power it down to the O5 level. What redundancies would be created SSDau?
