SIG MMG 338 Program Series

The First Step Is A Doozy

I’m looking at this and wondering how long the Army course would be.

The risk assessment on this is not something I would want to brief to higher.

  2. Strike-Hold says:

    We were promised jet-packs….

  3. LowSpeed says:

Wh..where is his reflective belt? Who authorized these shenanigans?

  4. Gerard says:

What you cant see is he’s only dropping 5 feet onto padded mats, this program is not past that point.

  5. Adam says:

How would this work with any meaningful amount of gear? Even a light combat load would render the suit ineffective (I’m assuming as you’d be too heavy). I’m sure they looked into it and realized there’s little to no benefit yet with the current tech.

    It is cool though.

      Lightflighter?

    • Lcon says:

Wing suits are not used by the military, the reason being that even with a light load the equipment would be to draggy. The aim of a wing suit jump is to extend the range of a jump to about 30 miles. A HAHO jump does that already. There have been some alternates looked into like the German Gryphon Wing pack or an American glider that you can see in the Bond movie Die Another Day the “Switch Blade” in reality the Kinetic Aerospace PHASST but I don’t think either has every been adopted. Neither though go farther than a HAHO jump.

    Isn’t this from a movie?

  7. Josh says:

Good ol Call of Duty Black Ops 2

  8. DEM says:

Red Bull gives you wings, but Rip-It’s give you bad ideas and I suppressed encouragement

  9. graham crackers says:

I should see if I can dig up the old wingsuit thing we did …

  10. Snake says:

I’m stuck in a Battlefield 3 & 4/Modern Warfare 3 era and clinging to my gear while the industry and world around me is starting to look very Black Ops 2 and it’s making me all :\

  11. Garrett says:

Poor dumb bastard. Looks like his buddies were folding a poncho and he just runs straight through it, jokes on him, there’s a cliff on the other side. Tsk tsk…

  12. tm says:

Glider troops v2.0! This time the qualification badge will depict a flying squirrel…

  13. Joe R. says:

PT requirements = 40″ Vertical jump now mandatory.

I’m not saying that a high speed, low altitude dude isn’t tactically intriguing but… real talk here – this is predominantly a young, male, FIRST WORLD adrenaline junkie litany that compromises safety to the point of spectacle all for the benefit of a personal experience.
This sport could only be dreamed up in the minds of people with high privilege, busy social media accounts and the artificially stoked egos that that creates. No tactician or strategist came up with squirrel suits, kids with GoPro cameras did and they’re happy do die in them at a pretty alarming rate.
If you could make a low altitude glide vehicle capable of carrying one soldier and a full combat load that can be collapsed in flight for parachute deployment that could be neat but everyone here has already touched on the subject of risk management so I won’t beat that dead horse.
The only people combining combat with squirrel suits is CoD, the triple XXX franchise and maybe the bond franchise. Civilians like soldiers and civilians like GoPro videos and “extreeeeeeeeeeme” sports.

I seen Special Forces do it in that Transformers movie

      • TheScrutineer says:

Oh DAMN! Wasted. It’s only a matter of time before all of our airborne troops are leaving Galaxies in fully laden squirrel suits. It’s as good as a done deal >.<

  15. ACME Inc. says:

The Coyote needs his suit back. Please return it immediately.

    • Roadrunner says:

Might be a while. He’s having trouble getting the rock he knocked loose on the way down off him using only that tiny umbrella.

  16. sean says:

    *jumps* “BATMAN!”

  17. Coyote says says:

Free Bird Seed. No anvil above, no need to look up. Enjoy my friend ?
