This is footage of a PPCLI paratrooper being off-dropped during EX Maple Leaf. Bit of a warning, there’s a couple of f-bombs dropped past the 1:30 mark.

Well that didn’t end as badly as I thought it would! I’ve seen countless numbers of guys get stuck in the trees, or come down in the trees and have sticks poke things they shouldn’t be poking.
Well that’s a little different. What did they say to the Air Crew to make them drop there?
Man, talk aboot snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Is it a Tree Landing if you make it to the forest floor without being snagged or impaled?
Jumping Safety is a double-edged sword for that exact reason: You’re not competing for air but if things go well, you have a long walk to the Collection Point; if things go poorly (late Release, just a couple Jumpers hesitating at the Door) you wind up off the DZ.
I know that feeling, luckily managed to hit the edge of the DZ
The spotter owes a case of beer.
He should have had more issues-why? Because jumping in daylight is stupid. It’s tactically unsound. Jumps should be at night, with STEERABLE canopies- and if the Army can’t afford it- we should stop injuring our soldiers and get out of the parachute business all together.
To clarify, I don’t wish him harm- I meant that at night he would have had more issues- which is when jumps should be conducted.
You sound like a leg, don’t talk about things you know nothing about
Actually…….mass drops aren’t conducted with steerable canopies for MANY reasons.
This soldier is a colleague and long time good friend. There were a variety of issues that contributed to this off drop, the DZ controller wasn’t one of them…happy no one was seriously injured.
I won’t mention what nation the plane and crew were from……..
When was the last time Canadians jumped into hostile action? During the Gulf War you had to come down to the states to jump with us (JRTC FT Chaffee 1991) cause all 12 of your C-130’s were in the desert! Canadian jump wings are two crossed hockey sticks and a curling broom! No cherry comments either. I’ve got my 5W identifier!
Oh that was hard to watch but damn LUCKY! Thank God he didn’t become a popsicle. Makes you appreciate the insanity of smoke jumpers a bit more huh?!
Can’t Smoke Jumpers steer for real?
I guess some really was kidding him.
Amazed at all the leg comments. If the knucklehead wasn’t playing film maker he may have not landed in the trees! That’s why I became a Jumpmaster. So I didn’t have to jumps with sky sharks and rookies! Threw you cherries out and had the sky all to myself!
