Coolest Christmas Presents Of 2013

IMG_1949

For Christmas, I received copies of both ‘Special Forces the U.S. Army’s Experts in Unconventional Warfare’ and ‘Survival Training in Our Armed Services’ by C.B. Colby, two of the many books Colby wrote about military training, the US Government, and other subjects. I remember reading these in the school library as a kid and they definitely influenced my decision to serve a career in the military.

What cool thing did you get for Christmas?

If those are the ones I remember as a kid the SF one has a photo of a soldier in the open with a wrist rocket to draw fire and a person hidden with a Garand. Not approved doctrine

Those Colby books were generally checked out to me, over and over and over again! I remember the guy with the sling shot, ’cause I think he was wearing Chuck Taylor hi tops, too– and the guy behind him did have a Garand.

Good memories, and like Scouting, it was the stuff which shaped us for those drill instructors and drill sergeants a few years later.

    Those were the days….

  16. FLC says:

Wow does the CB Colby book on Specal Forces bring back memories.
Our town library had it and i probably read it 10 times before the age of 12.
I do recall the “Hard hitting M-16” page. and some complete BS on the capabilities of the bullet…
can you post it? it was pretty outrageous as i recall

      Look for something very soon

    • BradKAF308 says:

I remember an article on US SF in Vietnam in National Geographic. It said how the 5.56 killed usually on shock alone. I thought it was the coolest looking rifle, M16. But learned other wise later. The FN FAL is the coolest.

  17. Mike Nomad says:

I grew up with CB Colby books. Congrats SSD, on the gifts.

Because my mom wants me always prepared, she got me one of these for Christmas:
