France – We Stand With You

WWI American - French Flags

We post this image from World War One to demonstrate how America and France have stood together in the face of tyranny. Our two nations have long been there for one another and now, we mourn your loss earlier today at the hands of savage gunmen.

    Well said.

Here’s hoping the cowards and those who helped them receive some very unpleasant knocks on their doors soon.

Attacking the free press… could there be a more direct attack on democracy?

  2. alkbt says:

    Thanks for this contribution !

  3. HinVan says:

Nice to see this post. Brits also standing in solidarity with our neighbours.

  4. Eric B says:

Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. We stand with you brothers. Justice cannot come soon enough for the innocent and the brave savagely murdered in Paris today.

  5. Bushman says:

Unfortunately, this sad situation has its roots in well-known French attitude towards democracy: their version of democracy sounds more like socialism, and it leads to increasing number of parasites, coming from all over the Third world to feed on welfare, to practice in Islamism and to literally eat tax money of working people.
Real-world difference between democracy and socialism is simple: democracy involves rights and responsibility, socialism – only rights.

    • Bushman says:

If tragedy does not turn into a lesson of responsibility, people died for nothing, and more probably will.

    • HinVan says:

Please don’t reduce this to political partisanship. Are you inferring that French popular mandates bear responsibility for todays actions? French democracy regularly returns conservative free market governments in equal measure to socialist. I would also remind you that the French democratic spirit helped inspire your founding fathers. France is a robust functioning democracy and the fact is that the people of both right and left are equally wounded by this action and equally coming out onto the Paris streets in spontaneous solidarity.

    • Ant says:

This is a political generalization of two systems that have multiple applications and forms. First off is if you have an unbiased and objective looks at American political system, the current system is strongly leaning towards an oligarchy and not the glorified democracy a lot of people perceive. Our country was originally based upon republicanism and the formation of this as a republic rather a democracy. France and the French Revolution were directly responsible for the inspiration of the founding fathers and one of the main nations to foster the idea of revolution during the enlightenment. France has social programs, yes. But your understanding of it is implying that it is a communist state which it is not, nor anywhere near.

      • SSD says:

You do realize that the French Revolution was after hours do you not? Furthermore, it was after the constitution was ratified.

  6. Rogue Male says:

Time to make those La Marseillaise lyrics a reality…

Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras They’re coming right into your arms

Égorger nos fils, nos compagnes ! To cut the throats of your sons and women!

Aux armes, citoyens, To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons, Form your battalions,
    Marchons, marchons ! Let’s march, let’s march!
Qu’un sang impur Let an impure blood
Abreuve nos sillons ! Water our bayonets!

    • Carl says:

Abreuve nos sillons….water the land……the french land

      • Carl says:

Water the land Ith the impur blood….

        • Rogue Male says:

En anglais, the meaning of sillons is taken in the translations of the lyrics I’ve seen as the fuller (colloquially called a “blood groove”) on a bayonet (though usually faire un sillon)…hence, “water our furrows/bayonets”…sillons also means “furrows”, ploughed land…perhaps a deliberate double entendre? It may be English poetic license with the translation, so I defer to your (native?) reading.

          • Carl says:

Perhaps Canada should send Kevin Vickers over to France…? Oh right! He’s just been named as our Ambassador to Ireland. Here’s hoping the French authorities track these cowards down and sort them out ‘Kevin Vickers’ style…
My deepest condolences to those family’s in France that have been impacted by this horrible event. Our prayers are with all of you at this time
