SharpWriter – Ronald Reagan The Liberator

Ronald Reagan the man, the myth, the legend. Driving the most the definition of American Muscle how can you get more Liberty into a painting, not much else to say about this.

You’ve probably seen SharpWriter’s numerous depictions of America’s Presidents but didn’t know anything about the artist or where to buy copies of the prints.

That will look great over the bed!

If that massive super charger/intake contraption wasn’t in the way, I think we would either see Chuck Norris or Dirty Harry Callahan riding shotgun. Surely that is Dirty Harry’s 44 mag… it’s killed more bad guys than small pox I have heard…

Thank you for this, I’ve wanted a copy of the JFK Moonhunter for a while now.

While I am a Reagan fan and was in the USMC during his DoD build-up and benefited greatly from his foresight…

…we must remember, President Reagan signed Public Law 99-308, the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act which amended the NFA banning private citizen ownership of “machineguns” (select fire weapons) manufactured after 1987.

While hoping to provide less restrictive provisions for ownership and travel with firearms as provided by FOPA, we got a ban on newly manufactured select fire weapons as a result.

And we can see just how effective FOPA has been! Care to transit NJ with hollow point ammo or NYC with your Glock 17?

While President Reagan was a GREAT president in most light, the ban on on select fire weapons will go down as a black mark on his record for his lack of 2A support in this instance.

President Reagan spoke frequently and very eloquently about LESS GOVERNMENT. No doubt we are at the other extreme end of the pendulum swing of “government in our daily lives”! Time to move the swing back towards Ronnie’s direction!

Well, to be fair, it really was the Hughes Amendment which was injected into the FOPA that banned MGs. The FOPA’s original text was very much pro-2A.

Then again, wasn’t it George Bush who signed the import bans that forever disallowed new imports of SVDs and Tigr rifles?

      • Billy says:

        Agreed.

But President Reagan’s signature is at the bottom of the Bill, not Congressman Hughes (D-NJ).

President Reagan did compromise a lot with Speaker O’Neill. But, FOPA has proved to be a failure while the “machinegun” ban is firmly in place. The only element of FOPA of any consequence today is a citizen’s ability to purchase long guns intrastate.

        Hardly a fair compromise IMO.

Finally, if you are inferring President Bush, another Republican, gave away 2A rights, I agree. BUT, I don’t label or support politicians simply by the D or R label. I support a politician based on their position regarding important/critical public policy that is important to me and my family.

“I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.”
