Designed by Hampton Roads local Tom Stokes, the Iota from CRKT allows you to open a can and eat the contents. Nothing crazy here guys, it’s a straight forward design, that includes spark, can opener, bottle opener and ¼” wrench. Made from 2Cr13 Stainless Steel, the Iota is just over 3″ long and available in Silver or Black.

Google the Australian issued F.R.E.D. if you want to see an earlier design that accomplishes the same thing and the acronym will tell you the down side.
Yep, that’s a dressed up FRED, my immediate impression.
Hahahaha
I have a metric tonne of those devices in a drawer at home somewhere. Nifty device, would definitely get one. They should make ’em in titanium if possible too.
I have their spork, nice little gadget to have.
Love these pocket tools especially when they integrate multiple tools into one. Handy.
same idea as the earlier short CRKT spork. whole lot better then using your hands, but still sucks 200% more then a full length utensil. The bottom of the can is a awful long ways down there…
I think I am going to stick to my Sea to Summit Long Handle Spork and a separate can opener. Most of CRKTs tools are quite beefy in terms of construction, but the weight just isn’t worth the length of the tool, especially when you are trying to eat out of an MRE or Mountain House pouch while still wearing gloves and not making a mess of yourself.
Don’t know about the Mountain House but with the main meals pouches I get in the ADF CR(a)P I flip it sideways and slit the pouches open so it’s like a nice small bowl. Downside is it no longer stands on its own anymore.
Similarly I will cut the Mountain House pouch down to the level of the food. It’s a lot easier to eat that way and I rarely want to same some for later.
Exactly why I don’t buy micro spoons, most of my food is in a bag when eating in the field or on the trail. For small cans this is a great device.
I am soon to take delivery of the Tyler Durden of spoons from American Kami, but I think I’ll call it ‘Mack’.
