I was probably 20′ from that exact spot with a best friend 1 day removed from Baghdad when a stray fire cracker from some kids sent us diving for cover!! Don’t truly appreciate the statue unless you’re laying on your back looking up at it and laughing.
The one and only time I’ve been to Prague was for New Years’ 1992/93 – when Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The fireworks were CRAZY that night. My girlfriend and I were constantly ducking out of the path of incoming rockets and stuff – and with the freezing cold temperatures, the smoke was thick and hanging heavy in the air like a smoke screen.
New Years fireworks are always like that in much of Europe… Sounds like my street in Bremen did when we lived there. People go crazy and spend a few hundred years on legit fireworks and go to town. I think I know what the Allied night bombing runs sounded like.
