You Never Know Where They’ll Show Up

From my journey to West Point for my 10 year reunion last month. It is of the large mural in the southwest wing of Washington Hall depicts the history of the weapons of warfare used in the twenty most decisive battles in history as visualized by the artist, Mr. T. Loftin Johnson. When completed in 1936, it was one of the largest unbroken interior paintings in the world, with an overall surface of 2,450 square feet.

Funny how I took stuff like the mural and the amazing views around the cantonment as commonplace for most of the time I was there. Went back for a wedding earlier this year, it reminded me what a beautiful place it is. “Go Bandits! Roothawg or Die!” ’12

Johnson was paid $30 a week and his assistant $20.
Elapsed time photos would be interesting.

Freakin’ Os. Must be nice. My drill sergeant painted the walls with our sweat.

Yup. One day those clowns will realize that most of the mud folks are lettered and can draw sounds. As soon as the curriculum reflects that, maybe they will descend from their ivory towers and see themselves as those who also apply their own pants one leg at a time.

      • Mike says:

So that is how you put them on? Between that and reading maps, I couldn’t figure this stuff out. We don’t come down from the ivory tower because we probably wouldn’t be able to find our way back.
