OR – Icebug Integrates Traction for Slippery Conditions

There are several studded, removable “skins” for the bottom of shoes and boots to increase traction in slippery environments. The Swedish company Icebug even makes them. But, they also integrate their system directly into the bottom of a line of footwear. Icebug uses a combination of carbide tipped studs and various sticky rubbers to help you stay on your feet.

We got a pair of these for my ‘special needs’ brother. Now his assistants are hanging on to him while going over sheet ice instead of the other way around.

Do those carbide tipped studs chew up indoor flooring? Figured, you might know.

The spikes are mounted on soft rubber so they tend to partially retract on hard floors. Not enough to let wood or similar sensitive materials escape unharmed without a great deal of care when walking though. Just enough to let the rest of the sole make contact with the surface and allow you some grip on polished stone and alike. I can note that the one time I saw them loose their grip caused a dozen 3 millimeter deep gashes in hard ice.

Icebugs? You find them in the same area with snow snakes?
