They are Ospreys assigned to HMX-1. Not Marine One (unless the President did decide to ride in one). They are generally used to ferry around press, staff, dignitaries, guests, and SS agents in support of POTUS.
Yeah, I don’t think they’re putting POTUS into one of those, unless it’s part of some nefarious SPECTRE scale assassination plot, or they have a rescue capability like in the opening scenes of “The Dark Night Rises.”
Maybe its for the press people that no one likes, or who smell funny, and the Secret Service agents who drove drunk or patronized the South American sporting girls.
I too lost most of my respect for the SS after that last incident. A man should never stoop so low as to pay for it. Then again…if they routinely jump on Marine Ospreys, I can at least respect their bravery and dedication to duty.
I believe so. And I had the opportunity to jump out of this contraption. It was a nice jump. Until I hit the prop wash/rotar wash/ what ever it’s called.
Although I have two of the Red and White letter SSD patches(from Mojo Tactical), REALLY think SSD ought to come out with another limited run of their retro-reflective patch…
Nah, apparently they let anyone in there! LOL. What that pic up there really is is the presidential flying coffin. I watch them come and go every day here at Pendleton and each time I see them, I say to myself “…glad I’m not on that thing.” I’ll stick to ground poundin’.
As usual, haters are louder than the rest. Always been the case, always will be. How many of them have either been around the aircraft – and have had actual issues with it – or have any level or mechanical/aerospace engineering to have an informed opinion? I bet few of them do.
I have a feeling most readers don’t know what they are seeing.
I’m not American and even I know this is one of the V-22s from HMX-1, potentially the future Marine One *snorts and pushes glasses up*
Saw the V-22s flying around Cardiff when I was there for the NATO Summit in 2014, great sight and even greater noise!
Marine One Osprey?

And don’t forget running lieutenants around at TBS.

It’s the best/only reason I want to get into the WH press corp.
I vote for Eric for White House press corps. Someone to ask the really hard questions.
But I’d have to ride in that death trap.

By SS, you mean Secret Service?

Jumping and doing external lifts with these things is a good time because of the crazy prop wash
Too bad they’re excellent aircraft.
A cool patch in front of a total waste of time and taxpayer money?
Hahahahaha

looks like 2 million parts trying to shake themselves loose all at the same time.
From what I recall (as of 0730 this morning), there’s a big sign at the gate of MCAS Quantico (HMX-1) that says; “Photography Not Permitted”
Although, this doesn’t appear to have been taken at HMX-1
This photograph was specifically authorized.
That would be very surprising.
This photo just caused a (small) stir where I work
My thought exactly, not exactly a likely photo op location without serious implications.
Disturbance in the force or cries for more annual training since enough hasn’t occurred?
And the Oval Office photos didn’t?

Why all the hate for the Osprey? It’s an amazing machine with a great safety record if you look at the actual numbers and not just the news articles.
Doesn’t everyone remember how much hate the F-16 got when it was being developed? Look at it now.
