I dunno. I like Larry Vickers but when he and Hackathorn appeared in a James Yeager video…..I felt way less hooah about the whole thing.

    • James Yeager has been in both Ken and my classes before, as a paying student, and is a model student in every way. He asked us to attend the joint 1911 class and we both said yes. He asked to do a video with us at the end of the class and assured us it would be professional and based on our experience with him as a student we had no issues. I understand some people don’t care for James but my personal experience with him has been positive- if that makes me a bad guy and my opinion no longer holds any value with you then so be it. Trust me I’m already over it – especially when someone criticizes you hiding behind a screen name. That screams ‘coward’ to me- always has and always will.

      • Disco says:

I appreciate the reply. Never said you were a bad guy. Not at all. Just brow raising. I just dom’t see myself wanting to be confused with people who get investigated at the state level for threatening to start “fucking kill people” because he disagrees with laws. Then you say in a video that American Police need to start peering out “those guys”, which Yeager was one. Some people can excel in a classroom setting but not so much under supervision or lack thereof within the scope of 99% of what police do that is not firearms related

And when I’m older and retired, I’ll gladly be more open with my identity. But people scream PERSEC out one mouth then “coward” out the other, kinda mixed signals.

As you know though, once you train someone, you are sorta responsible for what they do with that knowledge. Hence some of the unfortunate stigma of WHINSEC/SOA. Excellent cadres but the students have,in times past, not upheld US Army values, but certainly did not mind using their newly learned tactics in a negative way.

        Something to think about.

Being objective, would anyone want to stand up in court and say “Your honor, I trained this man”?

          • JKifer says:

my only comment bro, why the hooah… ya gotta drop that shit!

            • Disco says:

Admittedly the whole “hooah” spiel was a carry over from a gag me and my buddy had going on earlier. There was a time when people really said that way too much. Chalk it up to cheekinees. Everything else I posted, I stand by. I don’t care how many checks clear; James Yeager is simply not a man to be associated with. He’s up there with Sonny “Shoothouse” Puzikas and the other wackos. Just this summer didn’t he have to buy new tires and got his “school” banned in California because one of his instructors ordered everyone to stand on their pistols and one had a ND? And Yeager decided to retain aforementioned instructor?

Vickers is a big boy and a grown man. If he elects to associate himself with wackjobs on YouTube because a check clears and he puts on his Church Behavior for a day; that’s his prerogative.

My only issue that makes it a point of consternation that enough “big names” start inbreeding and kissing one another’s ass….and the political climate changes….then I can see them cracking down on private training for private citizens and when money overtakes self policing; big brother steps in and decides for us. Especially if one or more instructors appears unstable and makes threats. Doubly so if it gets linked to a criminal shoot.

Doesn’t mean nothing to me, my training is paid for, and when I’m out; I won’t pay out of my own pocket. I’ll be done.

Sell your good name to the wrong people and it stops being so good. Whatever, I’d just hate more government involvement because firearms instructors are thinking about the money and not so much after.

Whatever, Vickers don’t care, I don’t care. I just won’t be giving his words as much weight anymore. Newer, younger, fitter, switched on guys finishing up their 20 with more relevant curricula anyways who may be more careful with who gets associated with them

              • SSD says:

I’ve known James Yeager for many years and regularly see him at major industry events. He’s a really nice guy. While I don’t agree with many of the things he’s done, I liken him to a professional Wrestler. The guy you see on the Internet isn’t really him. He’s found a niche and he’s doing very well at it.

As for new guys. Yep, they’re coming along, some more qualified than others, but almost all of them get caught up in some BS as soon as they hit the street, whether self inflicted or brought in by bad associations. They are ripe for the plucking by those who will exploit them for their own ends. My number one advice to guys getting out, particularly from SOF is to be very careful of who they associate with. The more elite the unit the more susceptible the guy is. It’s because everyone around them was vetted and trustworthy. Out here, there are dirtbags aplenty and they’ll use an association with a known good guy to open doors for themselves.

    • PTMCCAIN says:

So, let’s see if I understand your remark. The SSD post here is about a publication featuring a number of instructors, including Larry Vickers.

You choose to inform us that you are feeling “way less than hooah” about that publication because you don’t like the fact that Larry Vickers (one of the contributors to this publication) appeared with Ken Hackathorn in a Yeager video.

Then you say that somehow Vickers is to be held personally responsible for Yeager going full Yeager?

      Makes no sense.

I’m no Yeager fan, in fact one of my most popular YouTube videos is my “Yeager is an Idiot” video, but your comment here is just plainly stupid.

  2. Tcba_joe says:

    Is this a periodical? Monthly,yearly?

  3. DAN III says:

It costs 5 bucks to ship it !

    • PTMCCAIN says:

So…yes, it does. Would you prefer they add $5 to the price and give you free shipping? Or…what’s your solution to the cost of mailing something to you, other than whining about it.

  4. Jim says:

Anyone know if this will be available on the Apple Newsstand App?

    • Carl Kanzari says:

I emailed and asked, the reply was just it print for now, think they are missing the market with no E-edition. Give it time, I bet they will if this takes off like I think it will.

  5. Frank says:

Will it be online? I’d like to not have to keep paying for a printing press for something that is already done up digitally.

  6. Dellis says:

I’m old school in that I prefer a tangible physical product in mags and books instead of a digital copy.

I got mine ordered, looking forward to reading and learning!

  7. john smith says:

The first mention of the apocalypse and I stop reading…

  8. rcbusmc24 says:

I was gifted a writers sample from one of the article writers for this magazine, This is the one to buy this year, not a bad article in it, everything focused on maximizing your training. While it is a “gun’ rag, it also isn’t, this is a publication that I’m going to be referencing regularly into the foreseeable future for those tips and tidbits that will help make you just that much better. I am very happy with my copy and will be picking up several more as I’m going to wear the one I have out going back to reference it. I hope that Paul Buffoni will be able to make this an annual tradition as the “industry” needs a training centric publication and not yet another gear focused one. Plus, I really miss Pat and it was awesome to be able to once more read an article of his and hear that voice in the back of my head…..

    • Chris K. says:

Agreed, training focused articles would be great vs the same gear rehashed to death.

  9. Bill says:

Ok, it’s isn’t a magalog or a catazine. What happened to “books?” I’m starting to wonder if the digital realm has reduced our attention span to the length of an article max.

  10. Chris K. says:

Awesome line up of instructors. I like that they included some that are competitive based, competition shooting improved my shooting performance faster and greater than anything on the tactical side. Will definitely give this a look.

  11. John Hansen says:

I just picked the magazine up at Wal-Mart. Seems pretty decent and I will continue to get it. I bought it to expand my knowledge regardless of who writes for it. Like any training, you need to see what works for you! I haven’t read anything bad in the magazine yet……
