Last week I had the opportunity to attend a fundraiser for the families of some of our nation’s finest. Also in attendance was author Brad Thor. He was signing copies of his latest thriller, “Hidden Order” so I asked him if he would be willing to sign a copy for a giveaway here on SSD. He was more than happy to oblige meaning one lucky SSD winner will receive a signed copy!
The most secretive organization in America operates without any accountability to the American people. Hiding in the shadows, pretending to be part of the United States Government, its power is beyond measure.
Control of this organization has just been lost and the future of the nation has been thrust into peril.
When the five candidates being considered to head this mysterious agency suddenly go missing, covert counter-terrorism operative, Scot Harvath is summoned to Washington and set loose on the most dangerous chase ever to play out on American soil.
But as the candidates begin turning up murdered, the chase becomes an all-too-public spectacle with every indicator suggesting that the plot has its roots in a shadowy American cabal founded in the 1700’s.
With the United States on the verge of collapse, Harvath must untangle a web of conspiracy centuries in the making and head off the greatest threat America has ever seen.

I personally like the Wheel of Time series.
The Border Trilogy by Cormac McCarthy, which consists of All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain.
Anything written by Clive Cussler.
The Long Run, and Charlie Mike by Leonard Scott
Great read
J L Bournes “Armaggedon” zombie series. Couldn’t put them down once I started.
The Twilight Saga
Clancy’s Jack Ryan series
doesn’t the obvious choice for ssd readers have to be the great mac bolan series?
Showing my age a bit but I always loved the Mack Bolan series.
Kolt Raynor, dewey andreas, pike Logan, Mitch rapp, scot harvath, any order is fine.
Clancy’s Jack Ryan series had me hooked. Others eventually lost my interest. Maybe it was Clancy’s theme of portraying most folks in the military as honorable vs. our societies inclinations to present them otherwise.
Favourite series: Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp series.
Frank Herbert’s Dune
Currently reading Hidden Order, have a copy of Full Black I got signed at SHOT Show 2012. Brad’s a great dude.
Any of the series by Issac Asimov. Loved them as a kid.
The Dresden Files. They are about the American fighting spirit and winning by doing the right thing–even if it kills you. And being a smart a$$ while doing it.
Just about any Clive Cussler, but I’m a fan of his Dirk Pitt and Oregon Files series the most.
Harry Turtledove’s alternative history series.
The Lincoln rhyme novels and anything else by Jeffrey Deaver
Toss up between Thor’s Harvath series and Nelson DeMilles John Cory series.
Kurt Vonnegut’s Kilgore Trout books (or anything else by Vonnegut).
Got to be the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child
I have to toss the coin on a daily basis to decide between Thor’s Scot Harvath and Flynn’s (RIP) Mitch Rapp – “somebody” needs to write them into the same story.
Could the world stand that level of pure, unadulterated bad-assery??? Iran would probably extend the olive branch out or sheer fear of it actually coming to pass in real life…
blake
When I was a kid it was the Executioner loved the weapons pictures on the back page, but now The Presidential Agent Series by W.E.B Griffin and Son is what I decompress with.
My favorite series remains to this day the Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy, with Mitch Rapp and Scot Harvath tying for second.
Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp
Mine has to be the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter.
Gotta be W.E.B. Griffin but a close second is Tom Clancy
I really like the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn
I’m a big reader of action thriller. Read all the Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. Just finished Lee Child’s last book. My very favorite though is Daniel Silva and his central charecter, master assassin for the Mossad Gabriel Allon. Also if you haven’t read Greg Iles then check him out.
The Deckard novels (Reflexive Fire, Target Deck, third title on way don’t know ETA or title) by Jack Murphy of SOFREP. Scott Harvath is close second.
My favorite fiction series is the Travis McGee series by John D. McDonald.
Has to be the Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser. Fast paced, funny, and strangely educational!
Casca the Eternal Soldier
or
The Lord of the Ring trilogy and The Hobbit
Dale Brown and the Patrick Maclanahan novels. ( Flight of the Old Dog and such)
The Axis of Time Trilogy by John Birmingham
Dalto Fury’s series (Black Site and Tier One Wild)
Those are both awesome. He has a new book coming out in February. I don’t know if if it is a third installment behind Black Site and Tier One Wild. Either way ill be ordering it the day it comes out!
Damn, I’m no fiction reader, but hell does Die Hard in video rocks!
The Longmire series by Craig Johnson
The Ender saga by Orson Scott Card, that includes the Shadow series.
Bob Lee Swagger series, Stephan Hunter.
WEB Griffin – Men at War series, Dale Brown’s books, or (of course) Clancy
Tom Clancy by far
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.
Jack Reacher series, by Lee Child
The Sharpe’s rifles series from Bernard cornwell. Napoleonic grit made real.
I love the Mitch Rapp series with Vince Flynn. I listen to them over and over as I work in the shop.
My favorite book series is Lord of the Rings! Thanks!
The Expanse Series penned by James S.A. Corey
I’m so pissed at myself for not getting one last week!!!
Kolt Raynor…
